Description

PATENT OFF oE.
AUGUSTUS HAYE, OF MORRISANIA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED FASTENERS FOR SASHES AND BLI NDS.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,271, dated September 26, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Aususrus HAYE, of Morrisania, Westchester county, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Window-Sash and Blind-Fastener, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to lock the sashes of a window together in such manner as to prevent rattling or noise of the sashes caused by wind or vibration, and also to lock the sashes and window-blind to the sashes so as to prevent opening of the blinds or raising of the windowsashes by a person on the outside of the window or dwelling; the nature of which consists of a tubular screw, which, passing through the inside sash, screws into a tubular nut or socket in the outside sash, by means of which both sashes are locked tightly together; and, also, in a screw-rod which. passes through the tubular screw and nut, screwing into a screw-nut or socket attached to the confining-blind, by means of which the sashes are again locked so as to prevent raising the sash and the blind locked to the sashes, as I will further explain by reference to the accompanying drawing, of which- Figure 1 is an inside view of window-sashes and blind all firmly locked together by my device; Fig. 2, a horizontal section through looking device; Fig. 3, a section showing sash-fastening locked and blind-fastening unlocked by removal of the blind-fastening rod; and Fig. 4, a sectional view of sash-fastening unlocked.
In the said drawing, A indicates the windowframe; B B, the window-sashes; and G O, the window-blinds. D is the tubular screw, which enters the inner sash B and abuts against a faceplate, E, on the said front sash when screwed into a screw-nut or socket, F, in the outer sash B, (see Fig. 2,) by means of which the sashes B and B are locked firmly together, and noise from rattling of the sashes or raising of them from the outside of the window to gain an entrance prevented. G is a screw-bolt, which passes through the tubular screw D and tubular nut or socket F abutting against the head (1 of the tubular screw, and screwing into the nut or socket H attached to the overlapping blind G, by means of which the window-blinds G O are securely fastened to the window-sashes and opening of the window-blinds from the outside of the dwelling prevented.
It will be observed that by this device the sashes have a double lock, and the sashes may be locked separately, or sashes and blinds all firmly locked together, forming a complete looking device for the windows of a house at all times, especially during the absence of the inmates.
What I claim is- The tubular screw D,the tubular nut or socket screw F, the screw-bolt G, and nut or screwsocket H, all constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as and for the purposes described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my signature this 17th day of August, 1871.
AUGUSTUS HAYE.
