Description

NITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
SILAS D. FISH, OF SGHUYLER FALLS", NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LADDER-HOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,226, dated September 26, 1871.
hooks which is provided with means for ready attachment to or detachment from the end of a ladder; and consists in certain details of construction which will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a ladder having a pair of my improved hooks applied thereto, and Fig. 2 a side elevation ofthe hook detached.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation. i
A represents the hook proper, consisting of a piece of metal suitably bent toform the hooks a a. B represents a socket of proper form and suitable construction, which is strongly attached to the side of the hook A in such manner as to swivel thereon. It is provided with a set-screw, b, which turns in a suitable socket, as shown. c represents a frictionroller, which is secured to the body of the hook proper by any suitable means, it being preferably located near the large hook a.
The operation is as follows: The hooks (for two should be employed) are attached to the upper ends of the sides of the ladder by means of the socket B and set-screw b, the small hook c being caught beneath the upper round, as shown. When thus secured the ladder is ready for use.
In placing the ladder it is designed tov let the upper endbear upon the rollers c, by which means its movement in any desired direction is greatly facilitated. When the proper point has been reached the ladder is turned over, when the large hooks will, be in position to take hold and secure the ladder. When it is desired to use the ladder without the hooks they may be easily detached.'
Having thus fully described ny invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secueby Letters Patent, is-
The hook described, having the parts c a', socket B, and friction-roller c all arranged as described, for the purpose set forth.
This specication signed a-nd witnessed this 8th day of April, 1871.
