BRUSH-HANDLE.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 16,1915. Serial No. 56,268.
Improvements in Brush-Handles, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to fountain brushes, an object of the invention being to provide a shaving brush handle whereby a determined amount of saponaceous fluid will be fed through the handle of the brush so that the necessity of the employment of shaving mugs or the like will be dispensed with. E
It is also my purpose to provide a brush with a hollow handle adapted to contain a liquid soap, and to provide the same with means whereby the fluid may be fed in pre determined quantities to the brush or prevented from being fed through the handle so that the said saponaceous fluid may be sprinkled and delivered to the hand of a person for washing purposes. 7
With the above and other objects in view, the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claims. In the drawing 2 Figure 1 is a view-of a brush constructed in accordance with the presentinvention, Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view through the same taken upon an enlarged scale, Fig. 3 is a view of the handle detached fr0mthe brush, Fig. 4 is a view .of the brush, Fig. 5 is aperspective view of the valve, and Fig. 6 and 7 are details. 1 The brush 1 preferably has its bristles set in a rubber head2, the said rubher head having a round and flanged ferrule 3, and the flanged side of the same being threaded, as indicated by the numeral 4. Passing centrally through the top of the ferrule 3 is a longitudinally arranged. tube 5, the outer end which is connected with the said ferrule being flared, as at 6, providing the said tube with a valve seat.
The numeral 8 designates the hollow handle which has one of its ends provided with interior threads 9 whereby the same may be screwed on the-threads 4 of the fer- The rule 3 and connected with the brush.
' opposite end of the hollow handle '8 is thickened, as at 10, and is provided with a threaded aperture 11.
hairs or The numeral 12 designates 'ai 'valve for the device, the same being in 'thenatuie-of' needle'valve and having its pointed 'end"1'3 adapted to be normally received u'p onhthe- Patented-July 18,1916;
s ENT OFFICE seat 6 of the tube The valve 12'is pro;
vided with threads ltwhiclrcoai'ct w iththc threads 11 in the widenedorgthickenedjend 10 of the handle, and the "said valve, at a suitable distance below thesaid threads'llt is provided with an arcuate slot lowhich communicates with a] central aperture or bore 16 that enters the outer end -of the valve stem. The :valve' stem 12 above its threads 14 is provided with an annular member or head 17, the same having its periphery milled, whereby the valvestem 12- further provided with a washer 21 which is adapted to close the open end of the valvev stem 12 when the cap 20 is screwed in one direction upon the said valve stem. The member 21 is seated upon the central portion 22 of a spider 23, said spider being arranged below the 'apertured outer end 24 of the cap. The end 9 of the handle is preferably provided with exterior threads 25 which are adapted to engage with interior threads 26 upon a protective cap 27 which receives the brush when the device is not in use.
The cap 20 is threaded upon the end of the valve stem 12 to closethe aperture thereof, and the handle 8 is removed from the brush land inverted when the saponaceous fluid may be inserted in the said hollow handle.
- fluid is to be distributed upon the hand of the user, the cap 20 is adjusted to uncover the aperture of the stem, when the fluid may be sprinkled through the cap 20 by shaking the device. a
From the above description. taken in connection with the HCCUIHPMIYJUQ drawing. the
siniplicitv ot'the device, as well as the advantages thereof wilL it is thought. be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such invention appertains without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A brush having a longitudinally arranged tube. the outer end of which being flared. a removable hollowhandle connected with the brush and surrounding thetube, a longitudinally adjustable valve stein pass ing' through th'e'handle and normalljv seated in the flared end of'the tube. said handle from its outer end being provided 'with a longitiu linal opening and bein s formed with a slot entering from its side and connnunicating with thesaid opening. and a cap upon the end oi the stem for closing the opening.
2. A brush having a longitudinally extending tube I communicating with the bristles thereof. a hollow handle connected .with the brush and surrounding the tube.
said handle having its'end thicliene larul '23, formed with a threaded aperturea stein having a threaded portion engaging the threads of the aperture and normally engaging the tube to close the same. a turnii head for the stem. said stem from. its mite. end being provided with a central how: which terminates approxiniatel eentr l therewith, said stein having an elongated slot communicating with the bore and arranged atthe end of the bore. a cap thread ed upon the end of the stem. said cap iii-- eluding a spider member. which is arrar '1 d over the end of the stem and having an 21pm"- ture upon the outer face thereof coniniunieating with the said spider member. 49 e In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses' MATTISOX G. REEVES.
