NIPPLE-PROTECTOR.
Specicatioters 1atent. 'Pafbnted July 18, 1916, l
Application led May 18, 1916. Serial No. 98,270.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I', RUDOLF KEIL, a citizen of Switzerland, residing at New York city, BronX county, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nipple-Protectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description. y This invention relates to improvements in sanitary nipple-protectors, or protectors for articles similar to nipples, such for instance as paciiiers for infants.
The obj ect of my invention is to provide a protective cap or sheath arranged to be slipped over a nipple or a pacier, when said nipple or pacifier is not in use, thereby keeping the air, dust or disease germs from coming in contact with the article which is placed in the infants mouth. In other words, my invention is directed to promote a sanitary condition of a nipple or pacilier by 'protecting the same when not in use, special means being provided to hold the protectorin place after it has been slipped over the nipple or pacifier. To still further promote sanitation, I provide the protector with an antiseptic pad designed to aid in keeping the nipple or pacifier in a sanitary condition.
I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the essential features of which will be summarized in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, on an en# larged scale, of a paciier, having my improved protector applied thereto, the protector being shown in section; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view, on an enlarged scale, of my improved protector; Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating my improved protectoras applied to the nipple of a nursing bottle and Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevation of the lower end of the protector illustrated in Fig. 3.
In Fig. 1 of the drawing, 1 indicates a common form of a pacier for infants, said paciier being provided with the usual mouth guard 2 to prevent the pacier from being drawn into the infants mouth.
My improvement consists-of a protector 3 arranged to completely cover or envelop the'hpaciier. The protector 3 consists of a cylindrical body portion 4 having aclosed rounded end 5 and `an annular flange 6 atl the opposite end, said flange 6 being prov vided. with resilient retaining-fingers or clips 7 y to engage the mouth guard 2. Within the cup-shaped end of the protector, I place a pad 9 which is preferably saturated wlth any desired antiseptic solution that will not leave any undesirable effect lupon the nlpple of the pacier.
When the protector. is placed over the l nipple of the paciier, as shown in Fig. 1,
the nipple will be completely protectedr from the air, dust, etc. When the protector 1s pressed home, after it has been placed over the nipple ,of the pacifier, the clips 'Tl will engage the mouth guard 2 and prevent the premature removal of the protector.v
As an extra precaution, I may place within the rounded end 5, a pad 8 which is also saturated with an antiseptic solution. The protector is preferably made into la rigid structure, and can be formed out of suitable material, preferably celluloid or vulcanized rubber. The clips 7 are eXtensions of the annular flange 10 which retains the pad 9 in place.
For use in connection'with a nursing-bot-v` tle nipple, indicated by 11, Fig. 3, I provide the protector 3 with an annular recess 12 any adjacent the open end therofto receive the 4 expanded portion 13 of the nipple, the open end of the said nipple being stretched over the end of the nursing bottle, a portion of which is indicated by 14'.' This form of protector is also provided, with retaining-lingers or clips 15, adjacent Vthe recessed portion 12, to retain the protector in place. This form of protector is also provided with a rounded closed end 5 containing the pad 8 for the antiseptic solution. Both forms of my protectors are provided with an eye 16 for the passage of a ribbon or the like, by"
means of which the protector can be attached to the infants neck, to the bottle, or to the pacier.
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire tosecure by LettersvPat- V ent is:
1. A protectingcap or sheath for-nipplesv portion to envelop the nipple, means to ref or the like, consisting of a cylindrical body tain said body portion in position thereon,
Iand antiseptic pads carried by said cap or sheath.
2. A sanitary protecting cap or sheath for nipples or the like, comprising a rigid cylindrical body portion having a closed end and adapted to envelop a nipple, resilient retaining-fingers or clips projecting from and integral With the open end of saidvbody portion, and an antiseptic pad retained Within the body portion.
Signed at New York city, N. Y., this 17th day of May, 1916.
