LIVE-ROLLER LUMBERfGGlllVEYER.
memes.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented July s, 1916.
Application filed March as, leis. Serial No. cereal.
To allwiwm it may concern Belt lmown that l, WELIAM D. CRocKJcR, a citizen of the United States,'rcsiding at Alabama, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Live-Roller Lumber-Conveyors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription oi the invention, such as will 'en-f able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
' This invention relates to conveyers and has special reference to a conveyer adapted to convey lumber around curves and up and down inclines.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved general-construction of. conveyers of this type.
A second object of the invention is to provide a flexible conveyer which is adiusted' to various curves'and which will still operate to convey the'lumber to the point desirgd' V I A further object of "the invention is to provide an improved conveycr wheel for use in connection with such a eonveyer."
Vlfith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in general of certain tion of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings 5 and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like charactors of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:--Figure l'is a side elevation of a conveyor constructed in accordarice with this invention. Fig. 2.15. a plan view of such a conveyor showing the curvethereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view herewith.
' view showing a form ofroller 'especially showing one of he rollers used in connection. Fig. 4-15 a section on the line 1-41015 Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail section on the line 5+5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a detail sec tion on the line 6-6.of Fig. 2. Fig. '7 is a plan view of-one of the bearings Fig. 8 is ancndview of the same. Fig, 9 ma detail 1 adapted for handling planks.
In carrying out the objects of this invention there are provided a %ries of supports 10 which may be made of timber or the like material and these supports are connected l at their upper endsby means of struts or beamsll which serve oppositely disposed bearing blocks 12 where through extend a shafi 13. The supports 10 radially of said curve.
to support a series of in any curve desired but when arranged in a curve the'bearing blocks 12} are arranged Located centrally;
of each of the "shafts 13 is a sprocket wheel i l. I Beneaththe supports 11 areotherbcari'ng blocks or bearings 15 wherein are jour rf naled shafts l6 carrying'the idler wheels .17.;',,'
Running over the sprockets 14c {and idler wheels 17 is a chain 18 which is driven from a sprocket 19 located at one end of the'conveyer.
0n theshaft 13 of the sprocket 19 is a'belt pulley 20 which'is, connected by means oi a belt 21 with a belt pulley 22 located on a shaft 23. This shaft 23 is also instance is locked to the shaftby a key 27,. and a set screw 28. On each shaft 13 inside] oi the respective-bearing block isa collar 29 which is secured on the shaft by means-of 73 a key 30 and a set screw 31.' Betweeuthe collars 291 and hub 26 is. secured. a. fi'usto il conical. roller 32 having a hollowportion' 23 wherein the hub 26 of the specific shaft i A ES. I
The two rollerson each. shaft are arranged that the minor bases of the {run cones are faced toward a series of prongs 37.
each other so a species of troughshapedevice is f0 2 and on each of these rollers there is provided] It is to be noted that the chain l8 is 'fir:
ible, laterally as well as horizontally and therefore that the chain can bend around" curves as are illustrated in Fig. 2 or any other curves'which may be desired. I From the foregoing it will be seen that a device of this kind'nan be erected to cover any ground, no matter how irregular its surface may be, and that the lumber will be conveyed up or'down the conveyer at any vertical or horizontal angle or curve that may be required since the flexibility of chain will cause the various flights or pronged rollers to revolve simultaneously and thereby advance the lumber along the oonveyer.
lhere has thus been rovided a simple and efficient device of the the character specified. It will be obvious 'nd described and of that many j minor changes maybe made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from. the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein set forth, but it is Wished to include all such as prop erly come Within the scope claimed.
, Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new, is
In a'conveyer of the class described, a support, a series of shafts arranged in said support, a pair of independent conveyer rollers on each shaft, seid rollers being substantially conical with their inn I ends opposed and provided with recesses, sprocket wheels on the shafts between the rollers and having the ends of their hubs engaged in the recesses and with the adjacent ends of the rollers to limit the movement of the rollers toward each other, and a universally flexible chain engaged with the sprockets.
In testimon whereof, I affix my signature, in thepresence of two Witnesses. WILLIAM D. CROCKEB.
Witnesses:
