Description
E. G. LEWIS.
WRIST STRAP.
APPLICATION FILED JAN-20. l9l6- 1,189,977. v Patented July 4, 1916.
INVENTOR Z [/7167 G. Zezaz'g A TTORNE Y8 ELMER GEORGE LEWIS, 0F COFFEYVILLE, KANSAS.
WRIST-STRAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4:, 1916.
Application filed January 20, 1916. Serial No. 73,266.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELMER G. Lnwis, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Coifeyville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trist- Straps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to wrist supports, and the main object thereof is to provide such a support which is more easily installed in position than any of those now known to me.
My invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which like characters refer to like parts in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is an open View of my invention; Fig. 2 is a View thereof in a partially attached position; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of a modification.
My invention comprises the usual band 3 having two buckles 4 adjacent one end thereof, two straps 5 projected from the other end thereof, and a slot 6 at the buckle end between the buckles, this slot being of slightly less length than the width of the member 7 to which said straps are attached and which member is secured at its inner end, at 8, to the band 3. The member 7 is reduced in width at its attached end to form shoulders 9, this reduced portion being, approximately, of a-width equaling the length of the slot 6, and the shoulders 9 so formed constitute the essential feature of my invention.
It is the present practice to wind the band around the wrist, then pass the straps through the respective slots in a most inconvenient manner with the free hand, then connect the straps with the respective buckles while at the same time maintaining the band around the wrist with the free hand, and then tighten the straps at their buckle connections.
In the use of my wrist strap, however, all that is necessary is to partially pass the straps 5 through the slot 6 previous to applying the support to the desired wrist,'after which the respective hand may be passed through the support and the straps pulled copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents' each, by addressing the Wuhington, D. 0."
through the slot until the narrowed portion of the member 7 is reached. The shoulders 9 thereafter prevent outward movement of the straps with respect to the band 3 and slot 6, thus avoiding the necessity for holding the support in place on the wrist with the free hand, or by pressing the wrist upon a table or against a fixed object, during the strap and buckle connection, and during the strap adjustment.
The form shown fragmentarily in Fig. 3 is essentially the same as that already de-. scribed but in this modified form I dispense with the barbed shoulders 9 and substitute a plurality of scallops 10 on the opposite edges of the strap 7 adjacent its attached end whereby the wrist strap is adapted for wrist-s of different sizes, any pair of the scallops serving as shoulders in the manner of the shoulders 9 already described.
My invention is very simple though highly practical, and it overcomes the very annoying features of attachment of those wrist supports now known to me, without adding the weight, size, or cost thereof.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A wrist support, comprising a band, provided with a slot adjacent one end, a strap adjacent the other end of a width exceeding the length of said slot and provided with a portion of a width less than the length of said slot to form shoulders adapted to engage said band to lock the same to a wrist, and a buckle for said strap for adjusting the tension of said band.
2. A wrist support, comprising a band provided with a slot adjacent one end, a strap adjacent the other end of less width at its inner end than at its outer end to form shoulders engaging said band in the position of said slot to lock said band around a Wrist, said strap being divided into two members, and a buckle for each member of said strap at the slotted end of said band, said slot being of a length less than the width of the divided portion of said strap.
