IMPROVEMENT IN WINDOW-SCREENS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,922, dated September 12, 1871.
To all 'whom it mayconcm:
Be it known that I, OSCAR F. FROST, of Monmouth, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in VVindow-Screens; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eX act description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of window-screens and facilitate their insertion in and removal from the window 5 and it consists in attaching the mosquito-bar to the fra-ine or sides by a groove and tongue, and in attaching the frame to the window-casing by means of key-hole slots and screws.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window with a screen constructed and attached according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail, showing the mode of attaching the mosquito-bar to the frame or sides.

A is the window-casing. B B are the screen sides, made of wood. C is the mosquito-bar cloth. The mode of attaching the mosquito-bar to the side pieces is seen in Fig. 2. A groove is cut in the edges of the pieces B B, the bar is placed over the groove, and then a tongue, E, is inserted, forcing the bar into the groove and securely holding it there by the friction thus produced, or by using one or more nails or tacks, or by glue or cement. The mosquito-bar when thus attached to the sides B B must be of a width to allow the outer sides B B to come in contactwith the casings of the window and thus be stretched to the proper tension. Gr G are slot holes in each of the sides B B, of key form,one end of the slots being enlarged to allow the heads of the screws H H to pass through. These screws are stationary in the casings. The slots above the enlarged ends being only sufliciently wideto admit the necks of the screws it will be seen that when pieces B B are passed over the screw-heads and slipped downward to the window-sill the screwheads will hold them in place. By raising them up the screen is readily detachable. It will be` seen that the screen is in nowise connected with the window-sash, but the sash may be raised more or less, as may be desired, while the opening is perfectly secure and excludes mosquitoes, iiies, and all insects. The advantages are, that this screen is readily adjusted to the window and removed therefrom, and, when not in use, may be rolled up and laid away, taking up but little space and not lia-ble to be damaged like the common screen.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
