UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. VANDERVOORT, OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS.
\. BLIND-STOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,111, dated June 5, 1883.`
Application tiled February 6, 1883. (Model.)
.T o @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. VANDER- vOoRT, of Corpus Christi, in the county of Nueces and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Blind-SlatOperating Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a convenient means by which blind-slats may be swung 011 their pivots, so as to open or close to the extent desired.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a windou`rblind provided with my improved blind-Slatoperating` device. Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. l on the line .fr x. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the bar which I employ for operating the slats. Fig. 4 is a section of Fig. l on line y y. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of an end portion of one of the slats, showing the band or ferrule I employ for providing the slots; and 6 is a side elevation of the stud-screw by which the knob is connected to the operating-bar.
`I slot the ends or one end of the slats a, as shown at b, either by grooving the wood or applying a metal band or ferrule,` c, and arrange the bar d in asl ot of the stile c, along side of the pivots f, with a stud-pin, g, for each slat, the pins projecting into the slots of the slats, so that 'they will be opened and closed by sliding the bar up and down. For so shifting the bar I have a knob, @connected to it by a thumbscrew, yi, projecting out through a slot, j, in the-front of the stile, and I arrange the knob to screw up tightly against the side of the blind-stile, to clamp the bar fast and lock the slats in the desired position, and to permit the slats to be, adjusted to or removed from the frame of the blind without taking the frame apart I rabbet one of the stiles of the blind and iit therein the strip m, securing it removably by screw or other suitable fastenings, o, the bearings forthe pivots n of that end of the slats being formed preferably both in the stile and strip m, as clearly shown in the drawings.
Thus it will be seen that I make a neat, sub= stantial, and efectiveblind-slat operator and fastener.
I am aware that various means have been employed to effect the same purpose; but no one has, to my knowledge, ever used the particular means which I have described; hence Vhat I claim as new and of my invention 1s- 1. The combination, with slats having' the end slot, b, ofthe slide-bar d, having a pin, g, for each slat, and a stile, e, having a slot to receive said bar, as shown and described.
2. The combination, with a slide-bar, d, arranged in a slot, j, of the stile, of the knob Il and thu1nb-screw fi, whereby the slats may be locked in any desired position, as described.
