Description

T. MITCHELL.
GAME.
APPLICATION FILED MAR.28, 1916.
1,189,158. Patented June 27,1916.
amen E01,
TONEY MITCHELL, OF BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
GAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 28, 1916. Serial No. 87,288.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ToNnY MITCHELL, a citizen of the-United States, residing at Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Games, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to game apparatus and has for its primary object to provide a simple and attractive game apparatus adapted for amusement and entertainment of adults and children, in the operation of which a great deal of skill is required, thus increasing the amount of enthusiasm.
An object of the invention is to provide a game apparatus by means of which the person with the greatest activity will obtain a greater score than an opponent less alert and skilful.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawing :Figure 1 is a top-plane view of the game apparatus. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 1 is a detailed sectional view.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a rectangular board shown formed with a marginal flange 2. Arranged at the ends of the board in spaced relation with the adjacent marginal fiang'e2 are cleats 3 forming in conjunction with the marginal flange guide ways 4, the bottom of each guideway being inclined for a pre-determined distance as indicated at 5 so that the rolling members 6 normally arranged in the guide-ways will gravitate toward the pocket 7 formed in one end of each guideway. At a point between the pocket 7 and the incline bottom portion 5 each auxiliary flange is formed with an outlet 8 whereby the rolling members 6 may enter the playing space or field 9.
Arranged in the field 9 adjacent each auxiliary flange and in spaced relation with the outlets 8 are openings 10 that communicate with a chute 11 that in turn communicates with a receptacle 12. Strips 13 cooperate with portions of the cleats for inclosing 3 sides of the openings 10.
For projecting the members in to the field successively and in a manner to require skill by the operator, I provide spring pressed plungers lt mounted in the marginal flange at a point directly opposite the outlets 8.
In the playing of the game, the opponents are arranged at opposite ends of the board and each controls a plunger. The rolling members are arranged upon the incline bottom of the guide-ways and are normally held against movement through their abutting relation with each other and the associated plunger. Upon retraction of the plunger, the adjacent memberv starts to move and at this point, quick movement upon the operator is required so as to strike the member with the plunger for projecting the member through the outlet into the field from whence the member is supposed to pass into the opening 10 at the opponent end of the board.
The one that succeeds in putting the greatest number of members into the opponents opening wins the game, while those members that lodge in the field are neutral property.
v From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it should be apparent that I provide a device which is admirably adapted for the purpose for which it is intended, that the device is simple, durable and eflicient of construction, and that the device may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Having described my invention, what I claim is l. A game apparatus comprising a rectangular board having a marginal flange and a run-way at each end of the board, rolling members in the run-ways and means for projecting the members successively from the run-ways into the space between the run-ways.
2. A game apparatus comprising a rectangular board formed to have a marginal flange, auxiliary flanges arranged at the ends of the board and spaced from said marginal flange, each of the said auxiliary flanges being formed with an outlet, rolling members arranged between the auxiliary flanges and marginal flange, and means for successively projecting the members through the openings in said auxiliary flanges.
3. A game apparatus comprising a rec- Patented-June 2'7, 1916.
tangular board formed to have a marginal flange, auxiliary flanges arranged at the ends of the board and spaced from said marginal flange, each of the said auxiliary flanges being formed with an outlet, rolling members arranged between the auxiliary flanges and marginal flange, and a spring pressed plunger mounted in said marginal flange for successively projecting the members through the outlets in said auxiliary flanges.
4. A game apparatus comprising a rectangular board having a marginal flange and a pair of openings, auxiliary flanges arranged at the ends of the board and spaced of said openings, rolling members arranged 20 in the space between the auxiliary and marginal flanges and means for successively projecting the members through the outlets toward said openings.
In testimony whereoi I affix my signature 5 in presence of two witnesses.
