Hmm n 1. naval/5.: moans] 4 UNITED STATES JESSE S. BATGHELDER, OF FORT WAYNE INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CONFECTIONERY JARS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,898, dated September 12, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ESSE S, BATGHELDER, of Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Confectionery-Jars; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a central vertical longitudinal section of my cylindrical jar. Fig. 2is abottom view of the cover. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the liner w.
This invention has relation to an improvement in contectioners jars. The object of this invention is to provide for an attractive display of stick candy; and it consists in the arrangement of a partition behind the front of the jar, by means of which a narrow space is cut off from the body of said jar, into which the stick candy is placed and exposed to view.
Referrin gto the accompanying drawing, A represents a cylindrical candy-jar, which may be made of tin, but must have a glass front, B. 0 represents a plate or partition, curved to coincide with the cylindrical form of the jar. The edges of this plate are formed into flanges c, which enter guiding-flan ges 0 on the inner surface of the jar, and allow the plate to slide in and out. A flange, d, also projects from the upper edge of said plate, and covers the space between the plate and the front of the jar, which is intended to hold the sticks of candy to be displayed. D represents the lid of the jar, which has a flange, D, of a shape to correspond with the opening of the body of the jar.
The candy is to be placed in the body of the jar in the ordinary manner. The space in front being of sufficient width to hold one row of sticks, they are placed in order therein, and show to better advantage than the ordinary jar filled. The candy sold is taken from the body of the jar, and whether there be one or a hundred taken out the outside appearance is as if the jar were yet full.
I claim as my invention The improved cylindrical jar for confectionery, provisions, 820., having the glass front B, sliding partition 0 with flanges a d, and flanged lid D, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JESSE S. BATOHELDER.
