To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK E. PPooL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Snyder, in the county of Scurry and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Kitchen-Cabinets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. v
My invention relates to kitchen cabinets, and it has for its object to provide one having a plurality of driven shafts, connected with conveyers and rotating members, and a driving shaft adapted to be moved relatively to the driven shaft-s, for engaging and driving any one of the said driven shafts.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for looking the driving shaft when it has been moved to engage one of the said driven shafts.
Still other objects of the invention will appear in the following complete description.
In this specification I will describe the preferred form of my invention, it being understood that the scope of the invention is defined in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompany ing drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of ref erenoe indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side sectional elevation of the invention; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the invention in section; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an enlarged elevation showing the guide plate at the front of the cabinet; Fig. 5 is a view showing the collar mounted on the driving shaft, which, together with the guide plate, serves as a means for locking the driving shaft; Fig. 6 is a side view of the same; Fig. 7 is an elevation,'showing the guide plate at the rear of the cabinet and the means for holding it yieldingly in one direction.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that a casing 5 is provided, having a central partition 6 and inclined walls 7, the inclined walls 7, the diverging members 8 and the doors 9 separating the bins 10 from the lower portion of the casing. A beater or other member 40 is provided,
which is adapted to be driven by the flexible shaft 35.-
Journaled in bearings in the front wall 17 of the cabinet and in the rear wall 15, there are two shafts 18 and a shaft 19. Gear wheels or projections 20 are secured to the shafts 18, respectively, and a gear wheel or projection 21 is secured to the shaft 19.
A member 22 is secured below the partition 6, this member 22 having an opening 23 in which a shaft 24 is freely disposed. The shaft 24 is also disposed in a' guideway 25 in a plate 26 at the front of the cabinet. The guideway 25 extends vertically a distance and it also extends horizontally, crossing the said vertical portion.
At the rearof the cabinet a screw eye 27 is secured to the outer side of the wall 15, a shank '28 being disposed through this screw eye, the shank 28 being secured to a guide plate 29. Aspring 30 is wound on the shank 28, between the screw eye 27 and "the guide plate 29, to hold the guide plate 29 yieldingly downward. There is a vertical guide way 31 in this plate 29, a pin 32 being disposed in this guideway being secured to the wall 15. There is a second guideway 33 in this guide plate 29, the central portion of this guideway 33 being horizontally disposed, with vertically-disposed terminals. To the shaft 24 is secured a gear wheel or projection 34. As will be understood, the forward end of the shaft 24 may be moved to the right, so that the gear wheel 34 will engage the left gear wheel 20, or the front of the shaft may be moved to the left, so that the gear wheel 34 will engage the right gear wheel 20, or, if desired, the front of the shaft 24 may be raised, so that the gear wheel 34 will engage the gear wheel 21.
A lever 42 is pivoted in a slot 43 in the member 22, the rear end of this lever 42 being disposed in the vertical guideway 31 in the guide'plate 39. The forward end 44 of this lever 42 projects through the opening 45 in the guide plate 26.
A flexible shaft 35 is provided, the flexible shaft 35 having a coupling member 36, by which it may be connected with the shaft 19. The flexible shaft 30 is adapted to drive a heater 40.

31, the pin The doors 9 are held yieldingly closed by springs 67, it being possible to open the doors against the tension of the springs 67 by the wires 68, to permit the contents of the bins to flow to the conveyer members 47.
A drawer 7 4 is disposed in the upper part of the cabinet, and extends at each side the partition 6, a box-shaped compartment 74:, having a top, bottom and sides, being provided to receive the said drawer 74, the members of the said compartment being rigidly secured to the casing. Lids 74" are hinged to the top of the casing, these lids being normally supported at their inner sides by flanges 7 5 secured to the outer sides of the compartment 74. It will be understood that when the lids 74" are raised it will be possible to deposit flour or meal in the bins 10, as desired.
A collar 7 6 is mounted on the shaft 24, the pin 7 9, which extends from the arm 7'7 which is integral with the said collar 76, being adapted to be disposed in any one of the orifices 80 in the guide plate 26. A handle 7 8 is provided, by which the collar may be readily moved relatively to the shaft 24. The spring 82 is provided for holding the collar 76 yieldingly against the plate 26.
In using the device, when it is desired to obtain flour or meal from the right bin 10, the right rod 72 is drawn outwardly, which, by means of the mechanism described, will open the doors 9 under the said bin, to permit flour or meal to pass from the said right bin 10 to the right compartment 46. The forward end 44 of the lever 42 is then pushed down, which raises the guide plate 29, and the forward end of the shaft 24 is moved to the left in the guideway 25 of the plate 26. This having been done, the forward end 44 of the lever 42 is freed, permitting the spring to push the guide plate 29 downwardly to its normal position. The rear end of the shaft 24 will now be found to be disposed at the top of the righthand vertical terminal of the guideway 38 in the guide plate 29, and the gear wheel 3% will mesh with the right-hand gear wheel 20. To more firmly secure the forward end of the shaft 24, the collar 76 is disposed with its arm 77 to the right, and the pin 79 is disposed in the right-hand orifice SO in the guide plate 26. The shaft 24: may now be rotated by means of a crank 81, which will. rotate the right-hand shaft 18 by the mechanism which has been described, which will carry with it the conveyer member 47 mounted thereon, and the said conveyer member 47 will move the flour or meal forward to the sieve 58, the flour or meal, after it has passed through the sieve 58, falling to the recess 82 at the front of the cabinet, in which a pan may be disposed to receive it. downwardly, by which means the guide plate 29 is raised. This having been done, the forward end of the shaft 242 is moved horizontally until it is in alinement with the vertically-disposed portion of the guideway 25 in the guide plate 26, the forward end of the shaft 24 then being moved upwardly and being held in place by means of the collar 7 6 and the pin 79 which is disposed in the lower orifice 80 in the guide plate 26.
The flexible shaft may be connected to the shaft 19 by means of the coupling 36, and when this flexible shaft 35 is rotated, it may be used in connection with the heaters to beat eggs, mix bread, cake, etc. The emery wheel 38 may also be used to sharpen knives.
A breadboard 83 is disposed in the bottom'of the recess 82 where it may be conveniently reached.
Having thus described my Invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets a driven shaft, a projecting member on the driven shaft, a second shaft movable relatively to the first-mentioned shaft, a projecting member on the second-mentioned shaft for engaging the projecting member on the first-mentioned shaft, a bearing in which the second-mentioned shaft is freely disposed, a plate having a guideway in which the second-mentioned shaft is disposed, and means for holding the plate yieldingly in a predetermined position relatively to the first-mentioned shaft.
2. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets a driven shaft, a projecting member on the driven shaft, a second shaft movable rela tively to the first-mentioned shaft, a projecting member on the secondmentioned shaft for engaging the projecting member on the first-mentioned shaft, a bearing in which the second-mentioned shaft is freely disposed, a plate having an angular guideway in which the second-mentioned shaft is disposed, and means for holding the plate yieldingly in a predetermined position relatively to the first-mentioned shaft.
3. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets two driven shafts, a projecting member on each of the driven shafts, a third shaft movable relatively to the first-two-mentioned shafts, a projecting member on the third mentioned shaft for engaging the projecting members on the said two driven shafts, a bearing in which the third-mentioned shaft is freely disposed, a plate having a guideway with two substantially parallel portions connected with a central portion in which the third mention'ed shaft is disposed, and means for holding the plate yieldingly in .a predetermined position relatively tothe first-two me'ntioned shafts. 4. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets a casing, a drivenshaft, a projecting memher on the driven shaft, a second shaft movable relatively to the first-mentioned shaft, a projecting member on the second-mentioned shaft, for engaging the projecting member on the first-mentioned shaft, a bearing in which the second-mentioned shaft is freely disposed, a plate having two guideways, the second-mentioned shaft being disposed in one of the guideways, a member secured to the casing for traveling in the other guideway in the plate, and means for holding the plate in a predetermined position relatively to the case.
5. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets a plurality of shafts, a projecting member on each of the shafts, a driving shaft movable relatively to the first-mentioned shafts, a projecting member on the driving shaft for engaging the projecting members on the first-mentioned shafts, a bearing in which the driving shaft is freely disposed, a guideway for the driving shaft at one side of the bearing, and a plate on the other side of the bearing having a guidevvay in which the driving shaft is disposed.
6. In an attachmentfor kitchen cabinets a plurality of shafts, a projecting member on each of the shafts, a driving shaft movable relatively to the first-mentioned shafts, a projecting member on the driving shaft for engaging the projecting members on the first-mentioned shafts, a bearing in which the driving shaft is freely disposed, a guideway for the driving shaft at one side of the bearing. a plate at the other side of the bear ing having a guideway in which the driving shaft is disposed, and means for holding the plate yieldingly relatively to the firstmentioned shafts.
7. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets a plurality of shafts, a projecting member on each of the shafts, a driving shaft movable relatively to the first-mentioned shafts, a projecting member on the driving shaft for engaging the projecting members on the first-mentioned shafts, a bearing in which the driving shaft is freely disposed, a guideway for the driving shaft at one side of the bearing, and a plate at the other side of the bearing having an angular guideway in which the driving shaft is disposed.
8. In an attachment "for kitchen cabinets a plurality of shafts, a projecting member on each of the shafts, a driving shaft movable relatively to the first-mentioned shafts, a projecting member on the driving shaft for engaging the projecting members on the first-mentioned shafts, a bearing in which the driving shaft is freely disposed, a guideway for the driving shaft at one side of the bearing, a plate at the other side of the hearing having an angular bearing in which the driving shaft is disposed, and means for holding the plate yieldingly relatively to the first-mentioned shafts.
9. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets a plurality of driven shafts, a projecting member on each of the driven shafts, a driving shaft movable relatively to the driven shafts, a projecting member on the driving shaft, for engaging the projecting members on the driven shafts, a member having an opening and a bearing, the driving shaft being freely disposed in the bearing, a plate at one side of the bearing having a guidewav in which the driving shaft is disposed, means for holding the plate yieldingly in one direction, a lever fulcrumed in the opening in the said member having an arm for engaging the plate for moving it in the other direction, and a guideway at the other side of the bearing in which the driving shaft is disposed.
10. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets two driven shafts, a projecting member on each of the driven shafts, a driving shaft movable relatively to the driven shafts, a projecting member on the driving shaft for engaging the projecting members on the driven shafts respectively, a bearing in which the driving shaft is freely disposed, a plate at one side of the bearing having a guideway in which the driving shaft disposed, means for holding the plate yieldingly in one direction relatively to the firsttwo-mentioned shafts. and a guideway at the other side of the bearing in which the driving shaft is disposed.
11. In an attachment for kitchen cabinets three driven shafts, a projecting member on each of the driven shafts, a driving shaft movable relatively to the driven shafts. a projecting member on the driving shaft for engaging the projecting members on the driven shafts. a bearing in which the driving shaft is freely disposed, a plate at one side of the bearing having an angular guideway in which the driving shaft is disposed, means for holding the plate yieldinglv in one direction, and 'a guideway having three branches, in which the driving shaft is disposed.

In an attachment for kitchen cabinets a plurality of driven shafts. a projecting member on each of the driven shafts. a driving shaft movable relatively to the driven shafts, a projecting member on the driving shaft for engaging the projecting members on the driven shafts respectively, a member having an opening and a bearing, the driving shaft being freely disposed in the bearing, a plate at one side of the bearing having an angular bearing in which the driving shaft is disposed, means for holding the plate yieldingly in one direction relatively to the driven shafts, a lever fulcrumed in the opening in the said member, having an arm for engaging the plate for moving it in the other direction, a plate at the other side of the bearing having a bearing in which the driving shaft is disposed, there being orifices in the second-mentioned plate, and a collar having a pin adapted to be inserted in the orifices respectively.

In an attachment for kitchen cabinets a plurality of driven shafts, a projecting member on each of the driven shafts, a driving shaft movable relatively to the driven shafts, a projecting member on the driving shaft for engaging the projecting members on the driven shafts, a member having an opening and a bearing, the driving shaft being freely disposed in the bearing, a plate at one side of the bearing having a guide- Way in which the driving shaft is disposed,
means for holding the plate yieldingly in one direction, a lever fulcrumed in the opening in the said member having an arm for 2 engaging the plate for moving it in the other direction, a plate at the other side of the bearing having a gnideway, and orifices, the driving shaft being disposed in the bearing, a collar on the driving shaft, and a pin adapted to be disposed in the orifices respectively.
