Description

.c. A. MIKKIN.
HAME AND TRACECONNECTOR. APPLICATION F|LE D JUNE 25. 1915.
1,188,299; Patented June 20,1916.
FFICE.
HAME AND TRACE CONNECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 20, 1916.
Application filed June 25, 1915. Serial No. 36,276.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL A. MIKKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Olmsted, in the county of Pulaski, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Hame and Trace Connectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to. which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in hame tugs.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a hame tug which will hold the traces at a proper distance away from the horses shoulders and sides so that there will be no appreciable rubbing to cause irritation or sores.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction and which is readily capable of being applied to or removed from the hames;
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is aside elevation of the hanie showing my invention applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a front elevation, F 3 is a horizontal sectional view through the hame taken just above the tug, and Fig. a is a perspective view of the tug link removed from the hames.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the collar and 11 the hame. The hame is provided with the usual apertured plate 12, for the interchangeable engagement of the hooked loop 13', this loop being particularly adapted for attachment of my improved link. The link is an elongated slotted member 14;, one end Copies of which receives the before-mentioned hook 13. The opposite end of the link 14 is provided with a hook 13 for attachment of the traces. This hook is provided with a pivoted latch 16 to retain the link of the chain carried by the trace from becoming accidentally disengaged. The link 14 is disposed in an approximately horizontal position against the side of the collar and on the inner portion thereof, or the portion which bears against the collar, the link is flattened into the form of a plate 17. The link is of such length that it will stand out from the collar at its rear end. Thus, the trace is held away from the horses shoulder and side so that there will be no rubbing. The particular angle at which the link 14 stands with respect to the collar increases the leverage so that the collar will be forced inwardly against the horses shoulders and thus more firinlyclamp the same so that the horse can exert more forward push on the collar.
'What is claimed is:
A device of the kind described consisting of an elongated link having one side broadened laterally and extended rearwardly to form a collar engaging base, a hook lying in a plane at right angles to the link and having its shank portion extending integrally from the end of the link and its bill portion extending backwardly over the link, and a keeper pivoted to the end of said bill and having its free end resting against the end of the link.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
CARL A. MIKKIN.
