IMPROVEMENT in Pfu'rrlne UP eAKlnev- Powosue Specication forming part ot' Letters Patent No. 118,768, dated September 5, 1871.
To all whom; it may concern:
Be it 'known that I, GEORGE F. WILSON, of Providence, in the county of Providence und State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Mode of Putting up Baking-Powders and other articles of a like character, of which the following;` is a specification:
If the several ingredients which enter into the composition of what are known as baking-powders be kept separate until the time when they are required to'he mixed for actual use, the powders will preserve their quality and eiiieiency a much longerI time thanv it' they were packed and mixed together in the same can. My invention is intended to keep the several ingredients of these powders separate, and it is applicable not only to bakingpowders, so called, but to other articles or compounds, the ingredients oi' which should be kept separate. until required for use. The ipvention consists in the putting upin one can or case ot' the powder or other article in such manner that each ingredient of the same shall occupy a compartment or space in the can separate and isolated from the other. It further consists in the use for this purpose of a sheet-metal can divided into two partseach closed at the bottom to form a, chamber for the reception of' one of the ingredients ofthe powder, the upper part being provided with a removable cover, and fitting' and forming the cover of the lower part.\`
The manner 'In which my invention is or may be carried int-o effect will be readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l represents, in perspective, the sev eral` parts of a can which I preter'to use in carrying my invention into eit'ect. The capacity ot' the chambers is regulated by the quantity of' the powder or other ingredient they are to contain.
ln the present case the upper part A is in- .ded to contain the cream-tartar or acid, and
the lower part l' the soda, used in making baking-powders, and the parts are, therefore, ot,l such size us to hold the proper proportion ot' each required to form the powders.
