GEORGE c. VANMEER, or IBURKS FALLS, ONTARIO, CANADA.
SEPARABLE FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Batent.
Patented June 20, 1916.
Application filed April 12, 1915. Serial No. 20,825.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE C. VANMEER, subject of the King of England, residing at Burks Falls, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Separable Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a separable fastenor.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of a fastener, the parts of which may be quickly secured together.
A further object of the invention resides in so constructing the device that when the two parts are interengaged they will be antomatically locked in such position.
A further object of the invention resides in making the fastener so that one of the members will be adjustable within the other.
A still further object of the invention resides in so constructing the device that it will be neat and of such formation as to be particularly adapted for securing the two parts of a rubber or other shoe together.
With these and other objects in view, such as will appear as the description progresses, my invention comprises the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
Referring to the drawing: Figure 1 is a plan View of my device looking at the side on which the spring is located. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. I is a section on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing wherein like parts are indicated by like characters throughout the several views: In the embodiment of my invention shown in the drawings, I have provided a plate 1 which is curved from end to end and has a loop 2 formed on one end thereof. Extending longitudinally of the plate 1 is a housing 3 which is formed by depressing a portion of the plate. Secured to the plate 1 is a U-shaped spring 4 which is attached, as at 5, and lies in slight spaced relation to the face of the plate. The bight portion 6 of this spring bridges the housing 3 in the manner clearly illustrated in the drawing. The other member of the fastener includes a bar 7 on one end of which is formed a loop 8. Formed on this bar 7, at spaced intervals, are projections 9 which are inclined toward the loop 8. The body portion of the bar 7 is of such dimensions that it will lie entirely beneath the plane of the plate 1 and within the housing 3. The upper ends of the pro jections 9 will extend above the plane of the plate 1.
When it is desired to secure the two members of the fastener together it is only necessary to push the bar 7 inwardly into the housing 3 at which time the bight portion 6 of the spring 4: will ride up on the inclined face of each successive projection 9 and will drop in behind the projection. This movement may be continued until the bar 7 has been pushed into the housing 3 to a sufficient extent. It will be thus seen that the bight portion 6 of the spring 4, engaging one of the projections 9 will prevent the disengagement of the members of the fastener without the manual actuation of the spring. The spring, however, will allow the fasteners to be pushed together to any degree and will automatically lock them in such position.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a separable fastener which is of very simple construction and yet one which will be exceedingly useful and which is of such construction that the parts are not likely to get out of order.
While I have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of my invention, I have merely done so for the sake of convenience and I do not wish to be limited to that particular embodiment as it is obvious that numerous changes may be made within the details of construction thereof without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention or without exceeding the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is In a separable fastener, the combination with a plate having a longitudinally extending channel formed by a depressed portion of the plate, of a bar slidably mounted in the channel and having teeth thereon adapted to extend outwardly beyond the face of the plate, the body of the bar being adapted to be located entirely within the channel, and a U-shaped spring detent having its leg portions hinged to the plate and its bight portion bridging the channel and adapted to engage'b'etiveen the teeth on thhzir, the p0r- TiiteStmiohy WheredffInififi' inj'r signa- {glen of the spring Which engages the teeth ture, inlthe presence of two Witnesses.
