UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERAS'TUS B. KUNKLE, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND EMANUEL BOSTWICK, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN EGG-BEATERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,727, dated September 5, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERASTUS B. KUNKLE, of Fort NVayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Egg-Beater; and I do hereby declare that the following is a' full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
Figure l represents a vertical central section of my improved egg-beater. Fig. 2 is an inverted transverse sectional view of the same taken on the plane of the line C C, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same ou Vthe line K K, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new egg-beater, which is provided with self-acting valves, where the egg to be beaten is caused to circulate up and down in a direction opposite to the motion of the beater.
A iu the drawing represents the central stem or rod of my improved egg-beater. B C D E are four, more or less, perforated disks aiiiXed to the rod A. The apertures through the disks may be of circular, star-shaped, or other suitable form. F is an upright plate placed transverselybetween the upper and lowermost disks B E, so as to di vide the intermediate disk or disks O D into equal halves. To the under side of one of the intermediate disks D is hinged a perforated semicircular plate, G, whose apertures are so situated as to close and be closed by the plate D when folded against it, as in Fig. 1. The valve G will be closed when the dasher descends and opened or swung down when it ascends. It is on one side ofthe partition F. On the opposite side of the same is hinged to the top of the uppermost plate B another semicircular, but not perforated, valve, H. The same is closed during the ascent and opened during the descent ofthe dasher. Thus, as the beater is applied and moved up and down in vessel, I, the egg or matter to be beaten will ascend under the valve H on one side of the plate F, whenever the beater descends,
and descend through thevalve G on the other side of the plate F whenever the beater ascends. Thorough agitation is thus effected.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The egg-beater, consisting of the 1, ert'orated disks of the upright plate F and self-acting valves G H, all arranged to operate as specified.
ERASTUS B. KUNKLE. Witnesses:
