Specification of Letters mat.
PatentedJune 13,1916.
' Application filed Aug 11st 19, 1915. Serial No. 46,328.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER YoUDEL- MAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Stopper, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
gripping of the disk by the body of the plug, due to the resiliency thereof.
The body of the plug 5 having no through opening in the body for the connection of the manipulating means for they plug, there is no chance for a leak through the connection.-
In the plugs at present in use, the manipulatlngimeans. for the plug pass through the My invention relates to stoppers, and has as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of the application, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all 1 the views.
plug is a disk- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a preferred form of my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical section therethrough; Fig. 3 is a sec tion through a modified form of the anchoring disk; and Fig.4 is a plan view of a further modified form of the anchoringmember.
Referring to the drawings, 5 represents a plug which is formed of flexible and resilient material, such as rubber or rubber composition. The lower part of the lateral surfaceof the plug is preferably cone shape to facilitate the engagement of the plug with the opening it is supposed to close. The plug 5 has a circular recess 6 in the top thereof at the bottom of which an under-cut groove 7 is formed in the wall of the recess. Engaging tightly the under-cut groove 7 of the 8 which rests on the bottom of the recess.'*The disk has preferably a raised portion 9 formed from the body of the disk and engaged by a ring 10, which forms the manipulating means for the plug. The disk 8 is anchored to the plug 5 by the body of the plug, being riveted at the lower end thereof. After a certain time of wear liquid finds its way through the opening en-- gaged by the manipulating means.
In Fig.8 a modified structure of the anchoring disk is shown. In this structure the margin 11 of the disk 7 is raised to increase the gripping action of the plug body on to the disk. The disk 7", shown in Fig. 1
4:, has a bent toothed edge 12 which can also be used to prevent the tendency of the anchoring disk to turn within the body of the plug.
I'claim: a
1. In a stopper, a plug of rubber or rubber composition having a cylindrical upper portion and a cone-shaped lower portion,
the said plug having a'c'ircular recess in its top, a disk member fitting in the bottom of said recessand having a toothed marginal edge, the said edge being gripped by the body of the plug, and a manipulating member for the plug engaging said disk member.
2. In a stopper, a plug of rubber orrubber'eomposition having a cylindrical upper.
portion, and a cone-shaped lower portion, the sald plug having a.c1rcular recess 1n ts top and an undercut groove in the bottom of the recess formed'in the wall thereof, a
disk having a toothed edge fitting in the said undercut groove and gripped by the body of the plugto prevent the disk from turning within the said body of the plug, the said diskhaving a raised portion and a ring engaging the raised portion of the disk.
In testimony whereof I'have signedmy name to this'specification in the pr'esenceof tw'o subscribing witnesses.
Witnesses;
