i To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, AUGUSTIN MARCOUX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewiston, in the county ofAndroscoggin and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Impression-Cups, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an impression cup used by dentists for obtaining an impression of the teeth in the upper jaw and the roof of the mouth. Y

The primary object of the invention is to provide a cup of the class4 described provided with a movable portion arranged to underlie the modeling compound with' which the cup is filled, so that when the cup is in-l serted in the patients mouth the dentist may move the movable portion in an upward direction in such a manner as to cause the modeling compound overlying the movable portion tobe correspondingly moved in an upward direction and into Contact vwith 'alll portions-of the roofof the patients mouth.

A further object ofthe invention is to provide the movable portionl of the impression cup with a finger pocket in which the 'fore finger of the dentist may be inserted to communicate upward movement to the movable portion of the cup when an impression is being taken.

An object of the invention is to provide the `impression cup with a depending flange which serves to guide the movable portion of the cup when the same is being moved in an upward direction, thus insuring the modeling composition with which the cup is filled being firmly pressed against the roof of the patients mouth.

The preferred form of the invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, although no restriction is necessarily made to the precise detailsv of construction herein shown, as changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the appended claims may be resorted to when desired.

The movable Portion ofctheaimnresson cup comprises a cver' forthe opening 2, the cover being similar` in shape to the opening 2 in the bottom of the impression cup and provided with a finger receiving pocket 6 extending below the bottom of the impression cup and opening out through the bottom of the cover.

The cover 5 is provided with a continuous retaining flange 7 arranged about the upper side edges of the cover in such a manner as to contact with the upper surface of the bottom' of the impression cup when the cover is disposed in the opening 2, and in this manner retain the cover in the guide wayV provided by the flange 3. The portion of the cover which is disposed adjacent the recess 4 in the flange 3 is also provided with a recess 8, said recess registering with the recess 4 to facilitate the insertion of the nger within the finger pocket when the device is in use. The portion of the cover which contacts with the portion of the flange 3 which is provided with the curved bottom edge is of greater height than the said portion of the flange 3, so that if for any reason the cover should stick in the guide way pressure upon the above mentioned portion of the cover lwould loosen the cover so that vthe bottom rofthel impression-cup which it could be easily removed from the guide Way.

From the foregoing description of the device it will be seen that when the cover ysion cup, said flangebeing provided with a recess 4 for a purpose which willQbe herein-v or movable portion of the impression cup is in the opening 2 with the retaining flange 7 in contact with the upper surface of the bottom of the impression cup the vsaid cup may be filled with suitable modeling compound before taking an impression. The impression cup is now ready for insertion v `in the patients mouth and the dentist now the .patients mouth thus securing a satis! factory impression.

Havmg thus Adescribed the invention what -is'clalmed as new 1s vl. An impression cup having `an opening in the bottom thereof, a flange surrounding said opening to provide a guide way, and a cover for said opening movably mounted in the guide way, vsaid cover having a finger receiving pocket.

2. An impression cup having anopening in the bottom thereof corresponding approXimately in `shape to the side walls of the cup, a flange depending from the under side of said cup and surroundingvsaid vopening to provide a .guide way, Said iiange having a recess therein, a 'cover for said opening having a portion thereof snugly fitting in 'said `guide 'way and providing a finger receiving pocket, said portion of the cover having a recess registering with the recess in the flange, and a continuous flange on the cover arrangedl to extend beyond the 'guide Way.

3. An impression cup having an opening in the bottom thereof, and a cover having a portion thereof providing a finger receiving pocket below said opening and opening out through the under side of said cover.

4. n impression `cup having an opening in the Abottom thereof, a flange surrounding said opening to pro-vide a vguideway, said flange having a recess7 a cover having a portion thereof :providing a linger receiving pocket and loosely mounted inthe guideway, and an end wall upon said portion of the cover provided with `a recess registering with the recess in the flange and co-acting therewith to facilitate the insertion of Vthe `finger within said pocket.
