Be it known that I, ADOLPHE I-IOUDARD, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of Neufchfitel-enBray, Seine-Inferieure, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bed-Pans, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement on the bed pan of the type .described in the application for patent filed on the 8th F ebruary 1910 Ser. Number 542,706.

The object of this improvement is to make a recess at the front of the seat and to provide the basin, at the center of its front part, with a spout entering the recess for the purpose of insuring the flow of the liquids into the basin and rendering the putting together of the article easier than heretofore.

The improvement consists also in making at the rear part of the basin an emptying spout when the bed pan is made in a single piece.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows the bed pan in elevation, Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof in which the depth of the various points of the platform, provided with cavities is shown by curves obtained by cutting the platform by equidistant planes, except the dotted one, which is an intermediate curve. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is longitudinal section taken along the line 44 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section taken along the line 55 of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is an elevation of the bed pan constructed in a single piece. Fig. 7 is a corresponding plan in which the cavities in the seat are identical with those of Fig. 2 but represented by the shaded parts. Fig. 8 is a transverse section taken along the line 8 8 of Fig. 7 and Fig. 9 is a longitudinal section taken along the line 9-9 of Fig. 7.

The bed pan is formed of a basin A either in one piece or not with a seat B provided with a platform 5 having a general slope or declivity corresponding to the fall of the loins, that is to say inclined from the 0utside toward the inside in which is made a general cavity or depression 0 corresponding to the general form of the fleshy parts of the body which repose upon the seat and cavities (Z c e the first of which corresponds to the backbones of the regions of the sacrum and of the coccyx and the other two to the points Specification of Letters Patent.

In the type of bed pan constructed in two pieces the front part of the platform I) is provided at its center with a recess 6 The front of the basin intended to come into contact with it is provided at its center with a spout a situated above the arched part a and intended to fit into the recess 19 in the platform 6 its edge projecting over the latter. As has been stated above it facilitates the flow of the liquids into the basin and also permits of easy assemblage of the parts.

Then the type of bed pan is constructed in a single piece, the rear end of the basin A is terminated in the shape of a spout f to permit of its being emptied more easily. This bed pan is also provided with handles 9 to carry it about. The front part of the platform I) of the seat has also at its center a recess 6 which facilitates the flow of the liquids into the basin.

What I do claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A bed pan having a supporting platform and a receiving basin in front thereof, the rim of the basin having a central bay or spout b projecting toward the platform to form a liquid receiving channel, substantially as described.

2. A bed pan having a supporting platform, centrally recessed at its front edge, an independent basin adapted to be fitted there to, and having at its rear edge a central bay or spout adapted to fit the central recess in the edge of the platform, substantially as described.

3. A bed pan having a supporting platform, centrally recessed at its front edge, an independent basin adapted to be fitted thereto, and having at its rear edge a central bay or spout adapted to fitthe central recess in the edge of the platform, the edge of the basin overlying the meeting edge of the platform, substantially as described.
