SAS
Nona s. SMITH, on HOUSTON HEIGHTS, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-FOURTH T0 J. W. HILL, OF DALLAS, TEXAS.
CRATE.
Application filed November 9, 1914. Serial No. 871,156.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, NORA S. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston Heights, in the county of Harris and State Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crates, of which the following is a specification.
This invent-ion relates to new and useinlaiprovements in a crate for eggs and the The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described, wherein eggs may rate compartment, for shipment.
A further feature of the invention resides in the provision of said compartments formed of flexible material and suspended from flexible supports, which absorb the shock, when the crate is moved and lessens the liability ofbreakage.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification andillustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1, is a plan View of the crate. Fig. 2, is a sectional side elevation thereof, taken on the line a-a of Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a sectional end view thereof.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of once designate similar parts in each of the figures; the numeral 1, refers to a frame work which may be formed of wood or metal, and which has suitable side and end members united together. The fabric strips 2, are provided, which are formed of cloth or other similar yieldable material secured at their ends to the top and bottom end members of the frame work, by means 0 the hooks 3. These strips are provided for g for the egg containers 4. Each container 1, is formed of flexible material preferably fabric, and the containers are arranged in rows between the strips 2, and
supports are secured at their upper'and lower ends, These COIltZLlIk' to said strlps.
the upper ends of which are being provided to receive respectively, ers form sacks, open, each sack copier of this patent may be obtained m be suspended, each in a separeferfive cents each, by addressing the Washington, D. G.
and contain an'egg, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The open end of each sackisequipped with a draw string, as 5, by means of which 211%- mouth of the sack may be closed and A crate of the character used, not only for the purpose of shipping eggs, but also for use in shipping any other small article which is likely to be injured in shipment.
While I device, it is obvious structure thereof ,may be modified without departing from the principle of the invention, and I hereby reserve the right to make changes in the mechanical structure thereof, so long as I keep within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 2-- 1. A cra-te including a of fabric forming supports secured to opposite sides of the. frame work, containers formed of fabric material, secured to and suspended between said supports each container having an open ject, and means for closing said open end.
2. A crateincluding a framework, strips of fabric secured to opposite sides of described may be have only shown one form of this that the mechanical frame work, strips end to admit an obtheframe work, containers formed of. fabric secured to and suspended between said strips of fabric, each container having a close end and an open end toadmit an object and a means for closing said open end.
3. A crate including a frame work, strips of fabric forming supports secured .to opposite sides of said frame workby means of suitable hooks, fabric containers secured two subscribing witnesses. g
