The invention relates tov machines aux-.
iliary to printing presses and like machines,
and more particularly to such machines wherein a running web is received and cut and is folded and delivered or is delivered unfolded, and in certain aspects of the invention it relates more particularlyeto such machines operating with diagonally positioned cutters cutting the running web, but making a square or perpendicular cut in the Web.
Other objects and features of the inven tion will be in part obvious and in part will be set forth hereinafter.

In accordance with certain features of the invention, means are provided for making a complete cut or severance of the web, such as is required 'in the clean-cut edges of magazines and other high class book and like printed work. This is effected by a shearing cut, and for this purpose the cutters are placed at a very slight angle, that is, diagonally or obliquely, to the axis of their carriers, thereby giving a clean, shear- Speciflcation 01' Letters Patent.

The form of delivery devices shown comprises an'intermittent carrier or conveyer belt 98 earried upon rollers 99 and driven in a suitable manner (not shown). The form of flat delivery embodied in said Figs. 2 and 3 comprises tapes 110 and 111 run ning over rollers 112 and 113, and constituting a sheet pathway conducting away the sheets from the cylinders 60. and 64. Means are provided for directing the lead edge of the successive sheets between the tapes 110 andlll. to be conveyed away thereby. As embodied, a series of fingers 114 are carried in recesses in the cylinder 64. Said fingerslfl are mounted on a rock shaft 115, said shaft. being mounted in the eylinder 61. Fixed to the rock shaft'115 is an aetuating arm 116 provided with a ram roller 117. The eam roller 11? cooperates with a eam 118 on the machine frame. The manner of operation of the mechanism shown and deseribed is substantially as follows: The web .1? runs in between the feed rollers 48 and 4!). 7. A folding and cutting machine including in combination rotating oblique cutters, rotating compensating means for producing a perpendicular cut therefrom, folding mechanism and devices whereby the cut sheets may be delivered folded or unfolded.

A folding and cutting machine including in combination a cylinder having an oblique cutter, an oblique cutter cooperating therewith, compensating devices for-producing a perpendicular cut from said cutters, devices carried on said cylinder for transferring the sheets therefrom either flat or folded, and folding mechanism for folding the sheets when desired.

A folding and cutting machine including in combination a web supply, a cylinder having an oblique cutter, an oblique cutter cooperating therewith, compensating devices for producing a perpendicular cut from said cutters, devices carried on said cylinder for transferring the sheets therefrom either flat or folded and folding mechanism for folding the sheets when desired.

A folding and cutting machine including in combination a cylinder having an oblique cutter, an oblique cutter cooperating therewith, compensating devices for producing a perpendicular cut from said cutters, devices carried on said cylinder for transferring the sheets therefrom either flat or folded and devices for receiving the sheets from said cylinder, and folding mechanism for folding the sheets when desired.
