P. G. ENSOR.
BAND CONNECTOR.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 28 1914.

BAND-CONNECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented llliay 1L6, ildiifi.
Application filed November 28, 1914. Serial No. 874,555.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PLEASANT Gr. ENSOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rapid City, in the county of Pennington and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Band-Connectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in band connectors.
The primary object of the invention is the construction of a simple device which may be used in connecting bands of various characters.
A further object of the invention is the construction of such a device which may be easily removed after the band has been connected.
l/Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more clearly understood from the following description and drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation showing the device when in operation, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device in use.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates any suitable object upon which it is desired to connect a band and 2 indicates the band having the spaced ears 3 formed on one end thereof and the threaded projection 4 on the opposite end. In applying a band of this character the threaded extension is adapted to be broughtbetween the ears 3 and a nut 5 is received on the, threaded extension and engages the top edge of the ears.
My invention comprises a handle 6 having the slotted extension 7 formed on one end thereof and said extension is bent on its free end at a right angle to form the blade 8. This blade it will be seen extends entirely across the end of the extension 7 and is integral therewith and serves to strengthen the extension to prevent unequal bending of the two parts thereof between which the slot is formed. By making this blade solid, all pressure applied thereto when the lever 6 is lifted is equally divided between the portions forming the extension, whereas if this blade were divided as would be the case by continuing the slot through to the end, each of said portions would be independent of the other and very much weakened and liable to be bent and twisted out of shape and made inoperative. A portion of the handle 6 is flattened, as shown at 9, and pivotally connected to the flattened portion is the arm 10 having the forked right angle extension 11. When the device is in use the blade 8 is engaged upon the top of the ears 3 and the forked extension 11 engaged beneath the nut 5. By raising upon the handle 6 the band is tightened and the nut 5 drawn in such a position whereby it will engage the top of the ears 3. When the nut is upon the top of the ears the several parts of my invention will be in the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1 of the drawings. It will be seen that it is necessary to provide the slotted extension 7 on the handle 6 as the end of the threaded extension 4 is adapted to enter the slot as the band is tightened. Such a slot is necessary when the nut is adjusted to various positions upon the threaded extension.
Having fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A band connector comprising a lever, a slotted extension formed on one end of said lever, a blade on the outer end of said slotted extension at approximately a right angle thereto and extending the full width of said extension to strengthen and brace the same and prevent unequal strain on the portions of the extension on opposite sides of the slot therein, and a forked angularly bent arm pivotally connected to said lever.
2. A band connector comprising a lever having an integrally slotted extension formed on one end, an integral blade on the outer end of said slotted extension at approximately right angles thereto, extending the full width of said extension, said blade tying and uniting the two portions of the extension on each side of the slot therein and thereby equalizing the strain on said portions, and an angularly bent arm pivoted to said lever in rear of said extension and having two parallel fingers projecting from its free end.
3. A band connector comprising a lever having a flattened slotted extension on one end thereof, flattened portions on said lever in rear of the slotted extension in planes at fingers on said arm projecting toward said right angles to said extension, a blade on the blade. 10 outer end of the slotted extension bent at In testimony whereof I aflix my signature approximately a right angle thereto and in presence of two Witnesses.
'1 extending the full Width of said extension, PLEASANT G. ENSOR.
a swinging arm pivotally mounted on the Witnesses: flattened portion of said lever back of the GEO. C. HUNT, slotted extension, and a pair of parallel L. D. OUOKLER.
