Description

UNITED STATES OFFICE.
TOBIAS L. RUBIN'STEIN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO THE NEW ERA MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI.
APPAREL-SHIRT.
Application filed-Apri127. 1915.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Tomas L. RUBINSTEIN, a citizen of the United States. andresident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparel- Shirts, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in apparel shirts, and is especially directed to the type of shirt having attached short sleeves and detachable long sleeves.
The object of my invention is to provide a shirt with short or half length sleeves attached and a button at the apex of the yoke, at each short sleeve top, and a full length sleeve, to be slipped over the half length sleeve, having at its top a buttonhole whereby it may be detachably secured to the shirt and an adjustable attaching means comprising a tab, having a plurality of buttonholes throughout its length and abutton. The tab end has the button secured to it and the tab secured to the full length over the buttonhole in the full length sleeve, whereby the tab and button may-be readily removed in case the full length sleeve is of the right length and the sleeve still have means wherebv it may be detaehabl y secured to the shirt. The tab and button provide means for varying the sleeve length where necessary.
With the above object in view, my inven tion consists in certain novel features of the construction and arrangement. of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out specifi cally in my claim and illustrated by the a1 4 companying drawings. in which:
Figure. 1 is a perspective of a shirt constructed according to my invention. one full length sleeve being removed; Fig. 9 is a fragmental, longitudinal, sectional elevation of a full length sleeve and the attaching tab and button; and Fig. 3 is a fragmental, inside face view of the full lengthsleeve, shou ing the attaching tab and button.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings: 5 designates the shirt, having the attached half length sleeves 6 and the permanently secured buttons 7 at points at the apices of the shirt yoke 8, or at points ad Specification of Letters Patent.

jacent the outer ends of the yokes and at their transverse centers.
The numeral 9 designates a fiill length sleeve having adjacent its top a button hole 10, and secured by stitching to the sleeve 9 over the buttonhole 10 is a tab 11. which tab has secured thereto at its attached end a button 12 and throughout its length there are the buttonholes 13. In use this tab serves to provide an adjustable and detachable connection between the shirt an'dfull length sleeve. And this adjustment is possible without exposing more of the tab than is necessary to the proper sleeve length.
The tab is always secured to the shirt by means of its outermost buttonhole and the button on the shirt, and hence there is no tab end beyond the button on the shirt, that may be folded over upon itself and form an un comfortable hulk under a coat or vest and the same is true at the sleeve end, where if there is any ad ustment ot tag length required it is accomplished under the sleeve and the ad- 'justed end of the tab secured to the sleeve by first stitching and then by a button and buttonhole. v
In some cases no sleeve length adjustm nt is necessary and hence the sleeve is provided with a buttonhole in addition to the tab, which may be readily removed by cutting the threads, which secure it to the sleeve;
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States therefor. is
