SHAVING BRU'SH.
APPLICATION man MAY 10. 1 915.
Patented May 9, 1916;
Inventor Witnesses Attorneys UN TED STATES- PATENT oFFIoni EDWARD SEYMOUR AMROCK, E WALTHAM, MAS$ACHUSETTS.
. e To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, EnwAnD SEYMOUR AMRooK, a citizen ofthe United States, re-
siding at \Valtham, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Shaving-Brush, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a shaving brush, and one vice of this type which embodies a soap object of the invention is to provide a deholder.
- and for holding said parts in properrela- .ture is not in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for guiding the re- I spective parts with respect to each other,
tive positions.-
further object of the invention provide novel means whereby a groove which constitutes a partof the guiding means may be shielded and protected wherfthe strucin use and when the structure is It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
.VVith the above and other objects in view .which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of-construction hereinafter described a have been separated partly; Fig. 3 is a side elevation showingthe structure set up for use as a brush; Fig. 4: is a longitudinal sec 7 "tion of the device when the parts are arranged as depicted in Fig. 1. 5 is a cross section on the line 5-5 of F g. 2.
In carrying out the' present inventlon there is provided a handle denoted generally it}? the numeral 1, the same. comprising a tuhular body 2receiving a thirnhle 3 holding hristl$ st constituting agbrush, it'bein'g unlde'rstdo the bristles '4: may be assembled with is to.

manner. The thi-nible 3 is provided with a circumscribi'ng'groove 5 adapted to receive a circumscribing rib 6 on the body 2, to the end that the thimhle may be held in place in the body. The tubular body 2 is open at its rear end, as shown at 50, so that the body may be employed for receiving and holding La cake of shaving soap indicated at 51.

body 2 and houses the groove 9, the sec against the casing 7 when the parts. ar arranged as shown in Fig. 1. The cap 16 is provided in'its side with openings 17.
} When the parts are arranged as shown in Fig. 1, the casing 7 is advanced until the same houses the brush 4, the casing being rotated until the, inner end of the proiection 8 is lodged in the extension 11 of the groove 9. The'primary cap 12 is slipped over the end of the casing 7 and houses the brush 4. The secondary cap 16 is placed on the end of the .body 2 and abuts against the casing 7, the secondary cap housing the groove 9.
'When it is desired to use the structure as a shaving brush, the casing 7 is retracted until the brush 4 is uncovered, the casing being rotated until the inner end of the projection 8 lodges in the extension 10 of the groove 9,-the secondary cap 16 being removed. When the primary cap 12 is placed on the end of the casing 7 the outer end of the projection 8 enters the slot 14 and ultimately lodges in the extension 15 of The body 2 is adapted to contain the cake of soap 51 when thedevide is in use and when it is not in use, although if desired,-
the cake of soap 51 'may be removed from v ary cap mounted on the butt ot-the handle and aprimary' cap I slidable upon the and engaged. terminally Wltll the casing; on the brush shielding end of the casing, the primary cap being adapted for mounting on the butt endot the casing when the casing is retracted and when the secondary cap is removed.
2. In a device of the class described, a handle having a longitudinalgroove "pro vided at its ends with transverse extensions; a brush carried by the handle; a casing protection for the brush; a projection carried by the casing, one end of the projection being adapted to ride in the groove and to enter the extensions thereby to hold the casing in advanced and in retracted positions with respect to the brush; a secondary cap mounted on the butt end of the handle and engaged with the casing, the secondary cap constituting a protection for the groove;
and a primary cap adaptedtor mounting on the brush shielding end of the casing when the casing is advanced, and adapted for mounting on the butt'end of the casing when the casing is retracted and when the secondary cap is removed, the primary cap having iandle and constituting a secondary cap is removed sleeve is retracted, the bayonet a slot receiving the other end of the projection when theicasing is in retracted position.
3.111 a device of the class described, a tubular-body provided at its forward end with a brush and open at its rear end, the body having a bayonet slot; a sleeve surrounding the body and slidable thereon, the sleeve shielding the brush, the sleeve having a projection the inner end of which is received. in the bayonet slotrthe outer end of the projection extending beyond the sleeve; a primary cap on the forward end of the sleeve and shielding the brush, the primary cap having a bayonet slot; a secondary cap on the rear end of the body, thesecondary cap being removable, a bayonet slot in the body, a closure for the compartment, and an abutment for the sleeve to prevent the rearward movement thereof; the primarycap being mountable on the rear end of the sleeve when the and when the slot of the primary cap being adapted to receive the outer end of the projection on the sleeve.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I havehereto a-tiixed my signature in'the' presence of two witnesses.
