Lne tubes 1-? and 1:) are combustible mixture, which will burn under all conditions with a smokeless flame. Thus, even though the air blast is not used, a smokeless hot flame is provided. By reason of the air entering the openings 21 admixing with the gas, before the gas reaches the tip 19 of the air blast tube 15, a more perfect combustion of the gas will result, resulting in a hotter flame. A Bunsen flame is pr0- vided when the air blast is not used, in order that the object to be soldered or otherwise acted upon can be effectively heated, and then when the air blast is turned on, this provides an extremely hot needle flame.
The barrel 12 in extending through the band 8 can be clamped thereby, by tightening the screw 11 to contract the band, and when the band is loosened, the barrel 12 can be rotated about its axis, to bring the terminals 17 of the gas and air blast tubes to one side or the other, or to any suitable point, out of the way. Furthermore, when the band 8 is loosened, the barrel 12 can be adjusted longitudinally, whereby the openings 21 can be moved partially within or completel out of the band 8. This band 8 will there ore serve as a shutter or valve controlling the flow of air through the openings 21, whereby the supply of air into theBunsen burner can be regulated as desired. When the standard 1 is supported by the base 4, the blowpipe can be supported upon a table, bench, or other support, and when the screw 9 is loosened, the blowpipe can be swung to various positions in a vertical plane, it being an easy matter to rotate the blowpipe about a vertical axis also. The blowpipe can thus be supported in various angular positions, and by detaching the standard 1 from the base 4, the standard can be used as a handle for manipulating the blowpipe, and the handle and barrel can be swung to various angles relative to one another as may be found more convenient.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A blowpipe embodying a barrel having an air inlet opening adjacent one end, a plug fitted in said end, and gas and air blast tubes extending through said plug longitudinally of the barrel, the gas tube terminating adjacent said opening, the air blast tube having an offset between the ends of the barrel, the end of the air blast tube terminating at the other end of the barreland that portion of the air blast tube between the offset and end being arranged axially of the barrel.
2. In a device of the character described, a supporting member, a pivot carried thereby, a band having terminals engaging said pivot, one side of the band having an outstanding loop, a clamping element engaged through said loop, and a blowpipe fitted within said band. A
3. In a device of the character described, a base having a tapered socket, a standard having a tapered shank to fit in said socket, the standard being adapted for use as a handle, a band pivoted to the standard, and a blowpipe fitted within the band.
