WATCH-BRACELET LINK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 9, 1916.
Application filed February 5, 1916. Serial No. 76,313.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MEYER L. ROBBINS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in WVatch-Bracelet Links, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a detachable link for the end of a watch bracelet and the like, and more especially to that style or type of watchbracelet, wherein a ribbon or strap extends about the wrist instead of the usual series of expansible links. Generally, the wearer of a watch bracelet deires. to use the watch for other purposes, such as a chatelaine, brooch watch, etc., and as the bracelet watchesgenerally in use are provided with a small link or other means of attachmentat the lower-edge, it-is readily apparent that a bracelet watch is being used, which is, of course, undesirable.
The ob ect, therefore, of thi invention is to provide a watch case with means to which my improved detachable end link may be secured, the means on the watch case not being discernible, so that the wearer can use the watch for other purposes than for a bracelet watch without it being known that a bracelet watch is being used, the improved link, to which this application has 2 reference, being, as heretofore mentioned, adapted for use in connection with a ribbon or strap, although the same may of course be used with the usual form of link construction. These and other improvements are carried out by my invention, a more particular description of which appears below.
Reference is to be had-to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, inwhich,
Figure 1 is a plan view of. a portion of a watch case with my improved link and a portion of the wrist ribbon or strap connected thereto; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the link in an open position; Fig. 3 is a side view of the link and wrist ribbon, partly in section; and Fig. at is a front elevation of the link.
Throughout the various views of the drawing, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
As heretofore mentioned, my improved link is attached to the end of the wrist rib-' bon or tape for securing the same to the watch case 1. The link has a pair of re- 7 tion 7, of the watch case.
silient, side arms 2, integrally connected at one end by the end piece 2 and having jaws, 3, formed on the other ends. These jaws 3 are provided with projections or studs 1 which extend toward one another and which are adapted to enter into the recesses 6 formed in the ends of the hinge por- A sliding collar 8 embraces thearms 2 and moves thereon, and depressions 9 are formed in said arms so that the collar 8 can move into said depressions and isheld therein, thus holding the jaws in the position shown in Fig. 1, and the studs 4 in engagement with the recesses 6 in the watch case. Projections 10 are formed on the ends of the collar 8 to aid in drawing said collar backward to allow the jaws 3 to spread, as shown in Fig. 2, whereby the studs move out of engagement with therecesses 6 and the link thereby freed from connection with the watch case. Projections 11 are formed adjacent the ends of the arms 2 to prevent the collar 8 from inadvertently slipping 01f the link and becoming lost.
On the interior of the jaws 3 and extending toward one another are projections 12 which form slots 13 between them and the offset arms 14 of the jaws 3.
As shown in Fig. 1, when the link is held in engagement with the watch casethe slots 13 come together to form a substantially continuous slot through which the ribbon or tape 15 passes. When the link is in open position, as shown in Fig. 2, the space between the ends of the projections 12 allow the ribbon 15 to be readily passed into the slots 13, and when the link is locked into engagement with the watch case the space between the ends of the projections 12 is so small as to prevent the ribbon from moving out of the slots 13.
From the foregoing, it is obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the embodiment shown, but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim is: I I
1. A link for watch bracelets and the like comprising alaterally expansible clamp having a pair of jaws, means movable on the link for contracting the jaws, a projection on each of said jaws between the watch engaging portions of the jaws and the rear of said jaws, forming a substantially continuous slot between said projections and the rear portions of the aws.
2. A link for watch bracelets and the like comprising a laterally expansible link clamp having a pair of jaws, means movable on the link for contracting the jaws, watch engaging portions on said jaws, projections on the interior of said jaws between the watch engaging portions of the jaws and the rear of the jaws and forming slots between said pro- 3 said arms and comprising ofi'set portions,
studs formed on the ends of said offset portions and extending inwardly toward one Copies of this patent may be obtained for another, projections formed on the interior of the jaws between the studswand the offset portions and forming slots between said projections and the offset portions.
5. A link for watch bracelets and the like comprising a pair of resilient andlaterally expansible side arms, jaws on the ends of said arms, means movable on the link for contracting the jaws, studs on the jaws for en gaging a. watch, projections on said jaws extending parallel to the studs and forming slots in said jaws for engagement with a ribbon.
6. A link for watch bracelets and the like comprising a pair of resilient side arms, jaws on the end of sai'd arms, studs on the jaws for engaging a watch, a slidable collar embracing the side arms for drawing the same together and holding the studs in engagement with the watch, projections formed on the jaws and extending transversely of the link and forming slots in said jaws for engagement with a ribbon.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York, this 17th day of January, 1916.
