To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS CORY Musonovn, a subject of the King of Great Britain, having resided in the United States one year last past and having declared my 111- tention of becoming a citizen thereof, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Wagon, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of a wagon for collecting ashes, dirt, refuse, etc., in which provision is made for discharging the contents thereof in front of the wagon at a dump or place of deposit, in an advantageous and practical manner, as will be hereinafter set forth.

It consists also in providing the body of the wagon with a chamber or chambers for collected refuse, tools, etc., independent of the place of reception of the ashes, etc., in said body.

The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, as long as they are included in the scope of the claims.

Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of a wagon embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a front view of a portion thereof. Fig. 3 represents a section of a portion on line w--w Fig. 1, on a reduced scale.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the body of a wagon within which is secured the false bottom 2, the latter being inclined from the rear to the front thereof where it is separated from the bottom of the front wall 3 forming the outlet or discharge opening 4 of the body 1. Connected with said false bottom 2 and said front wall is the spout 5 whose rear end is in communication with the interior of the bottom at the outlet 4, said spout passing in downwardly-inclined direction from the body of the wagon under the front platform or what may be termed the front foot board of the latter, and in the present case, through the front running gear, without interfering with the steering motions of the latter, it being noticed that the spout projects forwardly, is open toward its front, and it is provided with the gate or valve 6 whereby it may be closed when discharge of the contents of the wagon is not required. The front platform or foot board of the wagon will act as a deflector preventlng the dust of the ashes, etc., discharging at the front of the spout 5, directly reachmg the driver of the wagon. v

It will be seen that when the contents of the wagon are to be discharged the gate or valve 6 is raised, or otherwise moved, whereby the front of the spout is opened. Then said contents will enter said spout, they bemg assisted to enter the same by gravity due to the inclined bottom 2, this being assisted by the inclined lower wall of the spout 5, which is in fact a continuity of the said bottom 2.

It will be seen also that the wagon may be directed to a dumping place for ashes, dirt, refuse, etc, so that the front of the spout will he at or about said place. Then the spout is opened and as the contents discharge and roll down the dump, thus forming a hill thereof, the wagon may be run farther front and the contents roll over a fresh place on said hill, and so the latterincreases in length at the top, allowing the wagon to be advanced adjacent to said top until all of the contents are discharged, it being noticed that the driver occupying the front of the wagon may watch the dumping as it progresses and be able to exercise caufifiril, so as not to run the wagon down the The false bottom 2 and bottom proper 7 form the chamber 8, for refuse, waste, tools, clothing, lunch-carriers, etc, of the driver and workmen. The side walls 9 of the wagon have in them the openings 10 admitting of access to said chamber, and said openings are adapted to be closed by the doors 11 which are hinged to said walls, the operation of which is evident.

The chamber is divided if so desired, by

, the partition 12, and the wall of the divided part is provided with the door 13 for access into said part, said partition being interposed between the bottom proper 7 and the false bottom 2 serving as a support for the latter between the ends thereof.

In practice the walls of the body 1 and the spout 5 may be formed of sheet metal continuous of each other, and while said spout is firmly supported, its place of connection with said body is braced by the angle iron 14: at the top joint thereof, and by the 45 latter, said spout extending forwardly from -front and rear walls, a support for said body, the front wall of said body having therein a discharge outlet in the lower end thereof, an inclined stationary bottom above said support, the inclination of said bottom being from said rear wall of said body to saidfront Wall thereof and joining the latter named Walllat said discharge outlet, and an inclined spout joining said inclined bottom and said front wall at said discharge outlet, said spout extending forwardly fromfsaid body between'the' front wheels of the wagon.

2. In a wagon, a body having a bottom proper, a front and rear wall, the front wall having a discharge outlet in the lower end thereof, an inclined stationary false bottom above said bottom proper, the inclination of said false bottom being from said rear wall to said front wall and joining the latter at said discharge outlet therein, an inclined spout joining said false bottom and said front Wall at said discharge "outlet in the latter, said spout extending forwardly from said body between the front wheels of the wagon, said spout having its lower wall form an unbroken continuity of said false bottom. I

3. In a wagon, a body having a bottom Proper, a front and rear wall, the front wall. having a discharge outlet inthe lower end thereof, an inclined stationaryfalse bottom above said bottom proper, the inclination of said false bottom being from said rear wall to said front wall, and joining the latter at said discharge outlet therein, an inclined spout joining 'said false bottom, and said front wall at said discharge outlet in the said body between the front wheels of the wagon, and a connecting plate for said false bottom and the lower wall of said spout at the bottom of the joint of said spout and false bottom.

In a wagon, a body having a bottom proper, a front and rear wall, the front wall having a discharge outlet in the lower end thereof, an inclined stationary false bottom above said bottom proper, the inclination of said false bottom being from said rear wall to said front wall and joining the latter at said discharge outlet therein, an inclined spout joining said false bottom and said .front wall at said discharge outlet in the latter, said spout extending forwardly from said body between the front wheels of the wagon, and an angular connecting plate for the front wall of said body at the dis charge opening therein, and the upper wall of said spout at the top of the joint of said spout and said front wall.

5. In a wagon, a body, the latter having front and rear walls, a support for said body, the front wall of said body having therein a discharge outlet in the lower end thereof, an inclined stationary bottom above said support, the inclination of said bottom being from said rear wall of said body to said front wall thereof and joining the latter named wall at said discharge outlet, an inclined spout joining said inclined bottom and said front wall at said discharge outlet, said spout extending forwardly from said body between the front wheels of the wagon, a connecting plate for said inclined bottom and the lower wall of said spout at the bottom joint of said spout and bottom,

and an angular connecting plate for the front wall of said body at the discharge opening therein and the upper wall of said spout at the top joint of said spout and said front wall.
