CLOTHES-LINE AND ROPE ADJUSTER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr. 1916. 7
Application filed July 25, 1914. Serial No. 853,090.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, WALTER D. GRIPPEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes- Lineand Rope Adjusters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in clothes line and rope adjusters, in which the line is automatically gripped and held by the tension of the line itself and it has for its object to provide a light and readily manufactured stretcher readily adjustable and to enable an easy adjustment of the line for clothes lines or other ropes.
.With this object in view-my invention consists of certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my device perspective. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my device. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of my device.
The same reference characters denote llke parts in each of the several figures of the drawings.
In carrying out my invention I provide a curved body portion A, having at one end the eye 2 and having projecting from its sides the pivots 3.3 and having at the opposite end the eye 4. On the lower side I have the parallel projecting opposite lugs 5.5. Also In the operation of my device I tie in any convenient manner in eye 2, in body A, the rope 8. I then pass the end of the opposite section of rope .8 tobe adjusted, through the eye 6 of the lever member B, and through the eye 4 of the bodymember A, thence ITED ,STAWENT OFFICE il-f through the notch 7 of the body A, thence under the bar I) of thelever member B and v d A through the channel 9 between the lugs 5.5, drawing 1t up untilthe rope is stretched to i the required point. I Bythis tension the rope 8bear1ng on the lever member B vpivoted on 3 a 1 A, it draws the two members together and draws bar?) down on the rope 8 and holds it firmly against the surface of A and in channels 7 and 9between lugs 5 and 5 and the greater the tension the more firmly is the rope held, the channel 7 forming a pocket in which the ropeis pressed by the j pressure of the bar I). To release rope 8 I raise the lever member B opening the ends of B and A thus releasing the pressure of for adjustment.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new and for which I'desire Letters Patent is as follows:
' bar 6 and the rope may thus be again moved In a device of the class described, a body member provided at one end withan eye in which the end of a rope is secured, said body member being provided at its other end with an eye through which the rope to be adjusted is passed, the under side of the body member being provided with a longitudinal channel to receive the rope to be adjusted, a lever member pivoted to the body member and provided at one end with an eye through which the rope to be adjusted is passed, said lever member having at its other end a bifurcation which straddles the body member,
' and 'a cross bar connected with the ends of the bifurcation and cooperating with the channel in the body member to clamp the rope therein.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
