MEYER LIKOBBINS. on NEW YORK. 1v. Y.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MEYER L. ROBBINS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State ofNew York,
have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in l/Vatch-Bracelets, of ,which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to watch bracelets and especially those of the type known as convertible and the object ofthis invention is to provide a bracelet of this type wherein the watch can be readily detached and used for other purposes such as a brooch watch or chatelaine. NVhen the ordinary bracelet watch is detached and used for other purposes the link secured to the watch to which the bracelet is attached is readily be seen that a bracelet watch is being used. By the use of my improved end linkand means for connecting the same to the watch case, thisadvantage is avoided and the watch can readily be detached from the bracelet and worn in any other manner without it being known that a bracelet watch is being used. These and other improvements are carried out by my invention, a more particulardescription of which will appear below.
drawings,
Referring to the accompanying drawings, annexed hereto and forming part hereof, Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved attaching link as secured to the watch, a portion of the watch case being shown; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the securing member of the attaching link; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the attaching link in open position:
same; and Fig. 5
engagement with the watch case.
Throughout the various views of the similar "reference designate similar parts.
This application is a division of m copending application, Ser. No. 58,576, filed October 29th, 1915.
My improved attaching link in which the invention resides, consists of an outer link or member which is formed of two troughshaped members 1 connected at their ends by the cross members 2. The inner, or securing member 3 of the adjoining link engages one of the cross members 2, establishmg a connection between the links. The securing member of the attaching link is Specification of Letters Patent.
between them, as will The watch case-12 is provided withacharacter's cent its end so that the tongue WATCH-BRACELET. V
slidably mounted between the sides 1 of the V outer member, and said securing member has a palr oi resilient tongues 5 and 6. The
'lower tongue 6. is split longitudinally, as at 7, dividing it into two parts, each of which parts has an offset arm 8, having studs 9 extending toward one another forming a Patented Mar. 28, 19 1 6. and this application filed February pairof jaws for engaging the watch case now be described.
cent the offset arms 8, into which the collar 13 fits so that the jaws are held into engagement with the watch case and an inadvertent disengagement therefrom is prevented. l/Vhen it is desired to disengage the watch 'from the bracelet the jaws are moved slightly toward one another so that the hen moved toward the jaws itcollar can be moved out of the depressions and backward on the tongue 6 so that the jaws can spread'and the studs 9 pass out of the recesses 10 in the watch case.
The upper tongue 5 of the securing member has a recess 15in its upper side which engages with a cross member 16 on the outer link forming a locking connection between the securing member and the outer link and holding the locking member within the outer link as shown in Fig. 1. A serrated portion 17 is formed on thetongue 5 adja- 5 can be pressed down, whereby the recess 15 will ,move out 'of engagement with the cross member 16 so that the securing member can be moved out of the outer link, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 so that the collar 13 can be slid back on the tongue 6 allowing a spreading of the jaws when it is desired to remove the watch from engagement with the bracelet. A recess 18 is formed in the outer link, into which the collar 13 fits.
It will be noted that it will be impossible for the jaws to spread until the securing claim is":-
member has moved out of the outer link, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, as it will be im possible'ior the collar 13 to move 'bacl'rward as the same is prevented from so doing by the recess 18 in the outer link against which it bears.
From the foregoing, it is obvious that" my invention is not restricted to the embodiment herein shown, but is broad. enough to.
cover all structures coming within the scope or the. annexed claims.
.ving' described my invention,v what I l. A fastening means for bracelets and the like comprising an outer link, an inner. securing member slidable therein, a portion of said securingmember engageable with the outer link and forming a locking connection between said outer link and securing member, a clamp formed on said securing member for engaging a projection on a watch case and means movable on the: securing member for drawing the sidesof the clamp toward one another and holding the same in engagement with the'watch. case.
2. A fastening means for bracelets. and the like comprising an. outer link, an inner securing member slidable within the. outer link, means on. the. securinginember engaging means on the outer link: and fOI'l'IllIlgi a locking engagement. between. the; saidouter link and' securing member, a clampv having a pair of laterally distensib'le jaws. for engaging a watch case formed on the securing member, and means onsaid securing-member for drawing said jaws toward cne another whereby the jaws. are held IILthBlIJCOIItIHCted position: in engagement with the watch 3. A. fastening means for bltacelets and the, like comprising an outer link, a SQCIlI'z" ing member slidable therein having a pair tongue for engaging openings in; a watch case, and means on said clamp. for. drawing the sides ofthe' same toward one another wherebythe said clamp. is, held in. itsoontracted position and into engagement with the watch case.
4. A fastening means for bracelets and the: like comprising an outer link, a securing member having a pair of resilienttongues slidablewithin the outer link ge depression in one of said tongues for enga'gi'ng portion: of the outer-link whereby .a locking connection is formed between the outer link and the securing member, aclamp formed on the endioftliefotheitongueffor "en aain air of o aenins in'*a' watch caseb L O t:
' and" means movable onthe clampportion of the securing member. for drawing -together the-sides oi. theclamp whereby the I said clampis" held in engagement with a watch case.
