IMPROVEMENT IN SAD-IRONS AND RUFFLERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,725, dated August 8, 1871; antedatcd July 26, 1871.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM BANZETT, of Williamsburg, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Ilnproved Combined Sad-Iron and Ruier 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- aet description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this speciiication, in which the figure is a perspective view.

This invention relates to the combination with an ordinary sad-iron of a pair of luted rollers, mounted in vertical standards placed at the front and-rear ends of the iron, said standards being also connected at their upper ends with the handle of the sad-iron, the object of thus combining the iron and rollers being to furnish av ready means of iluting ru'fies and other like articles after they have been ironed.

Referring to the drawing, a is an ordinary sadiron. b is a vertical standard extendin g upward from the front end of the iron, where it is secured in any proper manner. c is the handle, the same being cast with the standard b d is a second standard extending vertically downward from the rear end of the handle but not reaching the iron. h is a lug that extends upward from the rear end of the iron directly beneath the standard d, a space, c, being left between the standard and lug for the insertion of the article to be iiuted. f is a iluted roll mounted lengthwise of the iron and partly within alongitudinal recess in the upper side of the saine, the journals of the roll projecting into the standard b and into the lug h. i is a second luted roll mounted above and parallel with the roll f, the journals of the roll fi projecting into boxes that are placed in slots formed in the standards b and d, and supported by bolts llocated within said slots and rigidly secured at their lower ends to said boxes. The said bolts pass loosely through the solid portions at the upper extremities of the standards b d, and extend into nuts n placed above the latter, by turning which nuts in the right direction the boxes within the standards may be raised or low ered so as to place the upper roll at the proper distance from the lower one. 'Iheupper roll is furnished with a crank, r, the same being applied to the journal s that passes through the rear standard d. The rolls absorb all necessary heat from the iron.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination of a sad-iron with lutin grolls, as specified.

2. The combination of the iron a, standard b d, handle c, rolls if, and lug h, as described.
