Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SOAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 117,722, dated August 8, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE BAKER and ISAAC BULLooK, of Lima, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Soap; and we do hereby de- 'many advantages, some of which will be hereinafter set forth.
In carrying out the invention we proceed as follows: Take ten (10) pounds of join and two and a half (2%) quarts of lye made of water and soda ash. These are placed in. a kettle over the fire, and to them are added two (2) ounces of pearlash and two and a half (2%) ounces of borax, brought to a boil and then well stirred. This constitutes the body of the soap, and to it are added eight (8) ounces of turpentine, eight (8) ounces of benzinc, seven (7) ounces of ammonia, one-half pound of cocoanut or oil of lavender, and four (4) pounds of Chinese preparation.
' It will be seen that we have produced a perfectly whitesoap. By its use clothes require no bluin g. It has no deleterious substances in it, resin, sal-soda, 850., being dispensed with, and is alike useful for the laundry and toilet. It will wash in any kind of water, whether cold or warm, soft or hard.
, Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The within-described soap, compounded of the ingredients in the manner and about the proportions set forth.
To the above we have signed our names this 6th day of July, 1871.
GEORGE BAKER. ISAAC BULLOCK. Witnesses:
A. H. PENNELL, J OIIN ATKINSON.
