EDWARD FEL'IMAN, OF OTTAWA, OHIO.
VERTICAL-LY-ADJUSTABLE SWINGIN-G GATE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD FELTMAN, a citizen of the United .States, residing at Ottawa, in the county of Putnam and State of- Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vertically-Adjustable Swinging Gates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gates and more specifically to vertically-adjustable swinging gates.
The object of my invention is to provide time more particularly enumerated, will beclearly understood from the detailed description and drawings forming a part of this specification.
Furthermore, this invention consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts more particularly described in the following specification and embodied in the claim appended hereunto and forming a part of this application.
Referring now to the drawings, which are merely illustrative of my invention, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a gate with my in vention applied. thereto. Fig. 2 is a detail horizontal sectional view of my improved adjusting attachment, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical sectional view of my achustment taken on the line 33 of Fig. 4. Fig. t is a detail transverse sectional view taken on the line H of Fig. 3. 7
Referring further to the drawings, wherein similar reference characters designate similar parts throughout the respective views, 1 designates a gate of any approved construction. A metallic strip 2 is secured diagonally from a certain point near the top of the hinged end of said gate to the opposite lower end thereof. An L-shaped metallic strip 3 is mounted on said gate near the hinged end thereof so that the longer arm Specification of Letters Patent.

4 thereof is vertically disposed thereon while the shorter arm 5 is secured near the top thereof. The said arm 5 of said L-shaped member terminates in a swivel end 6 slid ably mounted on a U-shaped hinge member 7, said U-shaped member being secured to a post 8. At the lower hinged end of said gate 1 is secured a U-shaped member 9, adapted to be secured to the gate 1, the base end of said member 9 extending outwardly from said gate and carrying transversely thereof a cylindrical pin 10. A tongue 11 is formed integral with and in continuation of said member 9, the end of said tongue formed with a vertical split so as to provide outwardly extending ears 12.
A semicylindrical hinge member generally designated by 13, is formed with a vertical slot 14 through the center thereof and a plurality of recesses 15 spaced apart in the edges thereof, the recesses in one edge being diametrically opposite the recesses in the opposite edge. A ball shaped head 16 is secured to both ends of said hinge memher, said heads being adapted to seat pivotally in corresponding sockets 1.7 at the outer end of supporting members 18, said members 18 adapted to be secured to the post 8.
The tongue 11 of said U-shaped member 10 is adapted to fit sliclably within the slot 14- of hinge member 13. The outwardly extendingears 12 are designed to prevent the tongue from being entirely removed from the slot. The transversely disposed pin is adapted to seat within any oppositely disposed two of the recesses 15. It will further be seen that when the forward end of the gate is raised, the pin 10 will disengage from its recessed seat and may be readily reseated in any pair of the recessesto raise or lower the gate as desired. It will also be seen that the gate pivots on the members 13 and 7.
The utility, adaptability, and advantages of my improved form of vertically-adjustable swinging gates being obvious, it is un necessary to further enlarge upon the same herein.
Having now described and pointed out the new and useful features of my invention, I do not limit myself to the shape of certain parts where the shape is not essential, nor do I restrict myself to the exact details of construction shown and described, but mean and intend to claim all equivalents drical member for engagement with the soekets for swivolly mounting the semi 'cylindrical member, said semi-cylindrical 1 her being provided with a central andl tudinally extending slot and with rality of uniformly spaced and opposit Copies of this'patent may be obtained for fiv Wu disposed recesses in its free edges, a U- shaped member carried by the gate, a tongue projecting from the U-shaped member and slidably arranged in the slot, a pin transfixing said tongue and ooacting with the recesses for removably holding the tongue in various adjusted positions to consequently control the adjustment of the gate, and oppositely extending ears formed by slitting and bending the free end of the tongue for preventing the withdrawal of the tongue from the semi-cylindrical member, yet permitting of the withdrawal of said pin from said recesses when adjusting the gate.
In testimony whereof I afiix'my signature i the presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD FELTMAN.
