Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 28, 1916.
Application filed October 26, 1915; Serial No. 58,077.
To all whomz't may concern 7 Be it known that we, HENRY CLAYTON WOOD and VVRIGHT HINCHCLIFF BROOK, subj ects of the King of Great Britain and Ire land, residing, respectively, at Tadcaster and at Bilbrough, both in the county of York, England, have invented a new and useful Improved Combination Dishstone, Gully-Trap, and Drain Connection for Use in Sanitary WVork, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved combination dishstone, gully-trap, and drain connection pipe, for use in sanitary work.
The object of our invention is to combine, with an accessible water-sealed gully-trap designed to open and expose in sectional elevation the whole of the interior surface of the trap, and with any ordinary form of dishstone to which such accessible trap may be applied, a special form of drain connection having means for preventing or checking the escape of any sewer gas or stench from the drains during the period the trap is opened for cleansing purposes.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of our improved combination dishstone, gully-trap, and drain connection, the accessible gully-trap being shown in its normal or closed position. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan of the dishstone. Fig. 4 is a sectional front elevation of the combination dishstone, gully-trap, and drain connection, in section on the line D D of Fig. 5, and showing the accessible gully-trap in its open position. Fig. 5 is a sectional side elevation of Fig. l,
7 in section on the line A A, but with the accessible gully-trap closed. Fig. 6 is a plan on the line C C of Fig. 4, that is to say, with the dishstone removed. Fig. 7 is a sectional plan of the drain connection, in section on the line B B of Fig. l.
According to our said invention, we provide a dishstone E of any ordinary form, having ordinary outlet and plug or grating F, and supported or suspended in a suitably elevated position so as to providethe necessary opening or space for interposition of the accessible water-sealed gully-trap G between the dishstone outlet and the level of the drain H to be connected to. T his accessible water-sealed gully-trap G is of the type described in the specification of our pending application Serial No. 58076, and provides for the whole of the interior surface of the trap being fully exposed to view for inspection purposes and to facilitate cleansing and the removal of any filth, deposit, or obstruction in the trap or in the pipes immediately connected therewith. The inlet pipe of the trap is formed with a socket I connecting loosely with a corresponding lip J on the dishstone outlet, or any other ordinary form of joint or connection between the dishstone and the trap may be employed.
In combination with the accessible watersealed gully-trap and dishstone as hereinbefore described, we provide a separate drain connection pipe K between the gullytrap outlet pipe and the drain H, said pipe K being connected detachably to the outlet pipe of the trap by bolted flanges L or other convenient means, and being jointed in any ordinary manner at its opposite end to the drain pipe II. This drain connection pipe K is fitted with an internal adjustable valve device, consisting preferably of a hinged flap M engaging over a water-sealed seating N and having an external counterbalanced controlling handle 0, this valve device being designed to prevent or minimize the escape of foul gas into the atmosphere through the outlet pipe of the gully-trap during the operation of cleansing the trap when the door of the trap is open and the water seal of the trap isbroken.
If desired a door or doors or other form of easing may be provided to inclose the space beneath the dishstone E; or the combination dishstone, gully-trap, and drain connection pipe may be inclosed within a manhole or inspection chamber so that the dishstone may be arranged at ground level.
We claim:
1. The combination, with an accessible water-sealed gully-trap of the type designed to open and expose in sectional elevation the whole of the interior surface of the trap, and with any ordinary form of dishstone to which said trap may be applied, of a drain connection pipe jointed at one end to the drain pipe and detachably connected at the other end to the outlet pipe of the trap, and having an externally-controlled internal valve device for preventing or minimizing the cs- IOU v Whole of the interior surface of the trap, and
other end to. the outlet pipe o'fthe...trap, and having an externally-controlled internal Valve device comprising hinged internal flap M, internal seating N, and external 'counterbalanced controlling handle 0, substantially as herein set forth. a
