. j Am'on'g, the principal objects whichthe present invention has in view are: to provide a bench of the characterjmentioned whichrnay be folded to adiminished compa'ssfor storage or transportation; to pro vide a bench adapted for attachment to the framework of a building under construct1on; to provide means for bendlng pipes to obtain different curv'esthereof; to, provide a tool-ho having means for stormg one or more tools of greater length than the capacity of the box would normally afford; to provide means for steadymg the bench, in service, and; to provide means whereby various machines may be attached to said bench.
Drawings-Figure 1 is a side view of'a bench constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention, the dotted lines therein showing the folded or collapsed condition, of the movable parts of the same; Fig.2 shows a front view of the bench, the. dotted lines therein showing pipe bent to different curves thereonpl fig. is a detail view showing a modified form of: an an horage and ack hooks operatlvely en,-
a in the same and Fi at is a detail view a h 7 b inperspec tivefoi' the modified form of the anchor plate shown in Fig. 3. v
Description-As seen in the drawings, a bench vhen constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention has a relatively small table 9 which is supported by stifl legs 10 withvvhich it is rigidly connected and byswinging legs 11 with which it is pivotallv connected by means of bolts 12. The active or. service position of the legs ll is regulated and controlled by the hinge jointed brace bars 13. The brace bars 13 are pivotally attached by means of rivets 14 and 15, to the legs 10 and 11 re spectively. A stop bracket 16, rigidly attached to one section of each of the bars 13, is so arranged as to engage and hold the ppe ites st n of t b 1.3 af r th w sections have swung past the center alinement thereof. The table 9 may be used to- "Speeification of Letters Patent. ll ppli ca ti on filed October 7,1915.
for the jack From the foregoing it Patented Mar.21,1916. seriai No. 54,660.
secure any machine used in the trade to which the invention pertains. The legs 11 are'also held in service position by the cross brace 17, which is pivotally mounted on the back brace 18, and is saw-cut or slotted near the forward end to fito-ver and engagea cross brace 19 extending between the legs 11. The brace 17 serves the added purpose of supporting the hand wheel 20, which, as shown, is pivotally mounted in suitable bearings and is threaded to engage the threads .ofa screw bolt 21. The bolt 21. is perfora ed at the lower end to receive a pin 22. The pin 22 forms a shackle hooks 23, the engaging ends whereof swing toward each other.
079eratz'0'n.-When in operation, the legs 10 and 11 are spread and held by the braces 13 and 17, the. hooks 23 swung towardeach other to engage the flanges of an I-beam 24,
the bracket plate 25 has a rectangular evelet 26 in one wing and a round perforation 27 in the opposite wing. It is through the rectangular eyelet 26 that the two ends of the hooks 23 extend. The perforation 27is intended for engagement by the. head 28 of an-expansion bolt 29 of any suitable and conventional shape will be seen that a bench. constructed as described and as shown in the accompanying drawings, may be erected for usein a building which is in course of construction and wherein the floors have not been laid or wherein the floor beams. such as the I-beams 2% shown in the drawings, are exposed. 'In such condition, temporary boards 30 are laid crosswise on the I-beams 24, and the hooks 23 are dropped to engage, the top flanges of said I-beams. The engagement of the hooks 23 with the flanges of the I-beams 24: being established. the hand wheel 20 is manipulated tolift the screw bolt 21 until the force exertedupon the hooks 23 is sutlicient tosteady the bench in its service position.
To assist in steadying the bench, the same is provided with a jack 31. The ack 31 has a hexagonal body and centrally bored and adapted to engage the flanges of a screw 32 "which is rigidly mounted upon and. extended from a plate 33. Slidably mounted on the screw 32, at the upper end thereof, is a saddle 34, shaped to encompass the lower 7 edge of a structural floor beam, such as inmeans of a pin 38, to lugs 39 integrally formed on the said jack 31.
The swinging legs 11 are provided with cleats 40. The cleats 40, as shown best in Fig. 1 of the drawings, are recessed at 41, to form waists. The recesses 41 are shaped to hold pipe, such as indicated by the dotted linesin Fig. 2, and bearing designating numerals 42 and 43. By placing the pipe as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2, under one of tlie cleats 40 and over the companion V cleat on the opposite leg 11, the pipe may be manuallybent to any desired curve. If a relatively sharp curve is needed, the pipe is bent as shown by the numeral 43, one seetion of said pipe being placed in the recess 41under the cleat 40 on one leg 11 and within the recess 41 and over the cleat 40 on the opposite leg 11. The position assumed by the pipe facilitates the bending to a sharper or shorter radius than is convenient when using the companion or upper cleats 40;
In a convenient position and rigidly mounted on the legs 10, is a tool box 44. The tool box 44 has a cover 45, and in one side thereof a recess or opening 46. The recess or opening 46 is provided to permit the elongated handle of any tool too long for insertion within the tool box.
At the under side of the tool box 44 is rigidly secured a spring latch 47. The latch 47 has a head 48, the office whereof is to'engage the end of the cross brace 17 when the said brace is lifted to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawlngs.
Claims:

A bench as characterized, comprising a table having outwardly-spread rigid legs supporting the rear edge thereof; a plurality of swinging legs pivotally mounted at the forward edge thereof for supporting the same in service; a cross brace extending in service between said rigid legs and said swinging legs for maintaining the service relation thereof, said cross brace being pivotally mounted on said rigid legs and having detachable engagement with the swinging legs; and means mounted on said cross brace for engaging and drawingupon a standing structure for holding the bench and legs thereof infirm contact with said standing structure.
2. A bench as characterized, comprising a table having outwardly-spreadrigid legs supporting the rear edgethereof; a plurality of swinging legs pivotally mounted at the forward edge thereof for supporting the same in service; a cross brace extending in service between said rigid legs and said swinging legs for maintalning the service relation thereof, said cross brace bemg pivotally mounted on said rigid legs andhaving detachable engagement with the swing-r ing legs; and means mounted on said cross brace for engaging and drawing upon a standing structure for holding the bench and legs thereof in firm contact with said standing structure, said means embodying a feed screw, jack hooks pivotally' connected therewith andpendent therefrom, and ascrew'nut thread-engagedwith said screw for lifting the same on said cross brace.
3.'A bench as characterized, comprising a table havingoutwardly-spread rigid legs supporting the rear edgethereof; a plurality of swinging legs pivotally mounted at the forward edge thereof for supporting the k same in service; across brace extending in service between said rigid legs and said swinging legs for maintaming the serv ce relation thereof, saidcross brace being pivotally mounted on said rigid legs and having detachable engagement with the swinging legsgand means mounted'on said cross brace for engaging-and drawing upon a standing structure for holding the bench and legs thereof in firm contact with said standing structure, said means embodying of swinging legs, a cross bar carrying a detachable' anchoring device, said cross bar being pivoted at one end to the fixed legs and having a detachable engagement with the swinging legs, whereby the said cross barv with the anchoring device can be folded upward to permit the anchoring device to lie intermediate of the ends of the bench when said bench is folded, and means for holding said cross bar in the folded position.
