ADJUSTABLE TRESTLE.
earner...
To (LZZ whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, ALVA (l. Boynn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sterling, in the county of \Vhiteside and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Adjustable 'lrcstles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to trestles used for saw horses, erecting scaffolds and the like, and has for its object the provision of a trestle having legs adjustably secured so that the height of the trestle may be adjusted as desired, and it may be folded into an exceedingly small space for storage and transportation.
My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which l igure 1 is a side view of my improved trestle in an erect position. Fig. 2, a similar view folded, and Fig. 3, a plan View folded.
In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
The bench 1 of my improved trestle is provided with longitudinal slots 2. The legs 3 each consist of the supporting members 3 slidably mounted in slots 2 by means of bolts 4: secured in the ends of the 1nembers 3 and slidably engaging the slots.
5 indicates wing nuts engaging bolts 4, said wing nuts being utilized to clamp the members 3 in engagement with the bench 1 when the trestle is positioned.
(3 indicates a spreader bar secured to the lower ends of leg members 3 to hold them apart.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 17, 1910.
Patented Aug. 22, 1911.
Serial No. 592,817.
7 indicates braces consisting of V-shapcd bars pivotally secured to the ends of bench l and having laterally extending ends 8 that pivotally engage the supporting 1nen1- hers 3 of legs 3.
In operation the legs 3 may be folded as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 so that the trestle takes up but little room in storage and is easily handled during transportation. In setting up the trestle, the wing nuts 5 are loosened so as to permit the legs to slide in the slots 2. 'lhcheightofthetrestlemay be adjusted as desired by adjusting the angles of the legs 3 and after inljnstment the legs are secured in position by screwing up the nuts 5 to clamp the legs 3 in engagement with the bench 1.
Ilaving thus described my invention, what; I claim is:
A. trestle comprising a bench having longitudinal slots therein and transverse holes adjacent: to its ends, V-shapcd legs, bolts engaging said legs and slidably mounted in the slots aforesaid, and braces each consisting of a single bar bent to a V-shape and having its two ends pivotally engaging the two arms of one of the V-shaped legs, and its middle portion engaging one of the holes adjacent to the ends of the trestle bench.
In testimony whereof I hereto atlix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALVA (J. BOYER.
