To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALVEDA GJnRTsEN HOBART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Tables and Ironing Boards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying draw ings.

My present invention relates broadly to new and useful improvements in kitchen tables and as its principal object aims to provide an article of this character which is so constructed that an ironing board of the or-. dinary type, as well as one of the sleeve type may be supported below the top of the table during the ordinary use of the same.

Another object of the invention isto so construct the table that the top leaves thereof may be readily lifted into folded position so that the transverse end bars of the table may serve as supports for the ironing board, which is normally supported in the table below the top leaves thereof.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide an ironing board of the sleeve type which is slidably and pivotally attached to the lower face of one of the leaves, whereby it may be drawn out and then swung into horizontal position when it is to be used or pushed in to lie beneath the leaf to which it is attached when not in use.

The above, and other incidental objects of a similar nature, which will be hereinafter more specifically treated are accomplished by such means as are illustrated the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the clalms which are appended hereto, and form part of this ap plication.

With reference to the drawings, wherein there has been illustrated the preferred embodiment of this invention, as it is reduced to practice, and throughout the several views of which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a top plan view, showing the movable leaf of the table top turned back, and the two ironing boards in position for use; Fig. 2 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation of the table with the movable hinged leaf of Specification of Letters Patent.

In the embodiment of my invention shown in the accompanying drawings, the table ineludes four

corner legs

10, 11, 12 and 13, which are connected by a pair of end bars 1i and 15, and a longitudinal bar 16, which is disposed at the back of the table. On the inner faces of the end bars and adjacent the lower faces thereof, are bolted, nailed or otherwise secured, the horizontal bars or strips 17, which inembersconstitute supporting shelves or ledges for the ironing board, generally designated by the numeral 18.

The top of the table preferably consists in two'leaves 19 and 20, which members are connected to each other by hinges 21". The leaf 19 is secured by nails or equivalent fastening devices upon the

14 and 15 and the longitudinal bars 16. The leaf 2O F ro'rn the foregoing description, it will be readily observed that the table itself is extrinely simple in construction and that one of the leaves may be disposed to complete the top of the table or may be swung to lie upon the other leaf, asin Fig.1.

The ironing board, heretofore generally designated by the numeral 18, is formed in two

13 and 14, so that its terminals will lie upon the supporting shelves 17, when the ironing board is not in use. Obviously, as shown in Fig. 2 the section 23 is folded to lie upon the upper? face of the section 22 when the ironing board is supported below the top of the table. As a means for rigidly maintaining the two sections of the ironing board in extended position when the ironing board is to be. used, I employ a metal strip or bar 24:. This member 24: is adapted to be passed through the U-shaped metalst'raps-25, whichare screwed or otherwise suitably secured to the lower face of the ironing board; Preferably, I apply two of 'these straps to the section 22 and but one of them to the section 23.- As a means for limiting the movement of the bar 24, when it is appliedKto the board, I employ a stop block 26, which is secured to the bottom face of the member 22. A notch indicated at 27 is formed in the upper edge of the end bar 14, to accommodate the member 2%, when the ironing board is in use.

As has been hereinbefore explained, I provide in connection with the table, a sleeve ironing board which is, as indicated at 28 in Fig. 2 of the conventional type. This sleeve board is connected to the fixed leaf 19 of the table top by means of a spindle 29, which is slidably and rotatably seated in a block 30.

' The member 29extends a considerable'distance beyond the side ,of the sleeve board, so that it will still seat in the block 30, when the'sleeVe-board is drawn out into position forvuse, as in Fig. 1. As shown in this figure, the ironing board s swung, when it IS tovbe used, into horizontal position, to rest upon the end bar 13, so that its'terminal will project beyond this member.

' A square block or strip, indicated at 31 is secured to the lower face of the leaf 19 as in F ig. 2 and is arranged for engagement by v the terminal of'the sleeve board when this member is disposed beneath the member 19. Obviously the block 31 serves to maintain the sleeve board in parallel spaced relation to'the member 19. In reduction to practice,

when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, asdefined by the appended claims.

What is claimed, is

1. A table including a pluralityof Sup porting legs, bars connecting the legs, a top comprising a leaf fixedupon the bars, and a leaf hinged to the fixed leaf and free with respect to the bars, a sleeve-board, a block secured to the lower face of the fixed leaf, a spindleextending laterally from the sleeveboard, said spindle being slidably and rotatably mounted in the block, whereby said sleeve-board may be disposed beneath the fixed leaf and within the-perimetricallimportion upon one of the bars. v

In a table, a supporting frame, a top including a fixed leaf and a hinged'leaf, and a sleeve board having a member "slidably and rotatably engaged with the under face of the fixed leaf wherebywhen the hingedleaf is turned over upon the fixed .leaf the sleeve board may be laterally shifted. toa position beyond the inner edge of the fixed leaf and thengrotated to a position in which one end ofsaid board projects beyond the end of the fixed leaf and rests upon the frame.
