To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Aoxns RAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corset Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to corsets and abdominal supporters, its purpose being to provide a combination whereby a corset,

with means on its underside, closely and securely attaches to an abdominal band which adequately and comfortably supports the abdomen from beneath, is easy of adjustment by the wearer, counteracts the downward pressure exerted by the ordinary corset, relieves, by its counter upward tension the strain and pull upon the stockings and hosesupporters, and at the same time, is completely concealed beneath the front skirt of the corset-nothing of its presence appearing upon the outside of the corset to distinguish it from the accepted corset of grace and fashionand is so simple and easy of manufacture as to be an article to be appreciated by both manufacturer and corsetwearer.

The invention is an improvement on the construction disclosed in my prior Patent No. 1,031,197 of July 2, 1912, and consists of the parts and construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of the inside of the front of a corset. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the attachment. Fig. 3 shows a. modified form of the device.

This invention consists essentially in the combination with a corset of a stiffened, practically diamond-shaped abdominal supporter 2, its upper and lower edges strengthened by a tape 3 or other binding; the lower binding tightened to effect a slight drawingin of that portion, its length lying across the lower abdomen and entirely concealed beneath the lower front, unstiifened skirt 4 of the corset; its center, vertical width fitted with a perforated steel or bone 5 to which is attached through said perforation by sewing or otherwise at its upper end, a double-eve 6 to engage laterally with hooks one of which is shown at 7 placed on the under side of the corset at the base of the front clasp-steels 8. The supporter, below its point of juncture 6-7 with the corset is left free to permit its automatic conformation to the contour of the lower abdomen as the ends, provided with hooks, buckles, studs, or other attaching means 9, are drawn backward and upward to engage with a short anchoring uniting strap 10, complementally provided, and carrying a slide 11 for varying its length and afiixed at 12 to the base of the boned section of the corset about six inches back from the front clasp-steels; the means of engagement between the uniting strap 10 and abdominal stay being so placed as not to come in contact with the flesh of the wearer, but turned outwardly against the skirt of the corset.

Various methods of attachment of the supporter to the corset are possible, that one being preferable which offers least impediment to ouick and easy fastening by the wearer. The perforated steel or bone 5 extending through the vertical center of the supporter permits the raising or lowering of the double-eye piece 6 should that be necessary to insure a close adjustment to the lower abdomen of the wearer.

A variation of this'device is effected, as shown in Fig. 3. by splitting the stay along its central. vertical line. providing the two sections thus formed With hooks and eyes. studs, eyelets for lacing, or other means of connection 13 along the edges so made, and fitting each piece with the front perforated steel or bone 5 and attaching a single eve 6' for engagement laterally with hooks 7 (Fig.

1) placed on the underside of the corsetfront near the base of the clasp-steels. The laterally engaging hooks on the underside of the corset when united with the double-eve upon the supporter. serve not only to hold the supporter in place. but. obviating the necessity of the customary closing of that part of the front of the corset, hold the two fronts together. The advantages offered by this new arrangement of an abdominal supporter under the front of the unstiflened skirt of the corset, with its attaching means to the corset also affixed beneath the same, are that no part of the device appears upon the surface of the corset to distinguish it from the ordinary corset of custom and fashion; the point of attachment of abdominal supporting band and the anchoringstrap is so far forward and downward as to be within easy reach of the wearer and can be manipulated before or after the corset is fastened, as the entire device lies directly under the front of the unstifi'ened skirt of the corset which can easily be lifted either for fastening the band or for readjusting it.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

'An abdominal supporter for application to the inner side of a corset, comprising a V centrally stiffened band separate from the corset and having its lower edge drawn in wardly and madeto substantially conform to the groin line of the wearer, being broad at the center and narrow at the ends, flexible,

anchoring straps at each end of the band adapted to be connected at their rear ends ,to the inner side of the corset, adjustable connections between the forward ends of the AGNES RAY.
