7 '0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BRUNO VERSEN, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Dortmund, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Belating to Antoniatic-lVorking Gas-Producers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to gas producers according to my application Serial No. 799,018 and has for its object an improved device for disintegrating the slags and cinders and for continuously breaking and loosening the caking and slagging combustion layer for providing passages to the entering air. While the gas producer 'is working, the hot cinders and slag slide automatically downward on the conical wall of the cinder chamber and are finally disintegrated by running through the water seal below the incandescent fuel layer. However the blocks of cinder and slag formed when, after the producer had been stopped for any reason, the work is resumed, (the producer chamber being cool) can no more be disintegrated by the water in the water seal. Now in order to crush said blocks, use is made of a central rotary crushing block of oblong shape provided with a peripheral helical rib and of a fixed piece of spiral shape disposed around a portion of said rotary block in such a manner that a tapering space is left between the central block and the inner periphery of said spiral piece. The blocks of cinder entering the larger end portion of said space, are forced by the rotary block through said tapering space where they are progressively crushed and finally evacuated at the narrowest part of said space through the annular space between the lower part of the central block and. the wall of the cinder chamber.
The central rotary block is provided with a stirring arm moving in the water seal and having an upwardly curved projectionwhich breaks the burning fueI layer by alternately raising same and letting it drop again. Stirring means are not new, but those known until now are arranged above the incandescent layer, so that they are soon out of use. The present stirring bar arranged underneath the combustion zone of the fuel, within a water cooled space, produces an efficient loosening of the incandescent material and lasts very long.
The improved arrangement is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is an axial section of the producer, provided with the novel device. Fig. 2 is a detail view of a portion of the cinder crushing device at a larger scale, partially in section. Fig. 3 is a partial top view of same. Fig. 4 is a top view of the stirring arm secured on the central rotary block.

Near the top 7' forming the gas zone of the pro ducer chamber d is provided an annular gas channel a, into which the evolved gas flows through connecting ducts c radially arranged all around and between said channel and chamber d and leaves the productthrough a common pipe Z. Immediately on top of said annular channel a is arranged the wrought iron bottom plate m of the gas zone j, so that the latteris directly heated by means of the flowing out gases. Furthermore, a second or additional gas channel a is provided in the inner wall 9 of the producer and the gases from the upper or gas zone of the producer or from the channel a euter'said channel a through a plurality of radial ducts 1", and enter again the gas zone through other radial ducts g. In the present invention the gas zone is so near the burner or combustion zone that when the layer of fresh fuel above the incandescent layer of fuel of the combustion zone is thin, the gas zoneor chamber of the producer is exposed to a very high temperature. Owing to such arrangement the working of such producer is very simple. The efficiency of the distilling process increasing with the temperature, the lower portion of the vertical outer wall is cut away, because, owing to the concentration of the heat in the middle or combustion zone of the producer, a formation of slag and a resulting blocking of the feeding device cannot occur. At or below the zone of combustion the producer is provided with a water body into which the hot cinder falls and is disintegrated. The disintegrated cinder then drops through the body of water below the combustion zone to an upwardly inclined'cinder discharge 8. The cinder or slag disintegrating means comprises an axially mounted rotary cone h mounted on the shaft of a driving wheel at the lower end of the conical wall t of the producer.

The'semicircular grinding element 6, is preferably made removable and is illustrated in the drawings asheld in place against a supporting frame 2 by slotted bolts 3. which are provided with cotter pins 4. When the producer works, the hot cinder. falls in the water seal and is disintegrated. The disintegrated cinder then drops through the body of water below the combustion zone to the cinder discharge 8.
The stirring device mounted on the rotary block it comprises stirring arm k havingan upwardly curved projection it which breaks the burning fuel layer by alternately raising same and letting it drop again. The arm 70 moving in the water seal, is not exposed to the high temperatures of the combustion zone so that it works efficiently and lasts very long.
Having now fully described .my said invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. Device for disintegrating the slags and cinders and for continuously breaking and loosening the. caking' and slagging combustion layer in automatically working gas producers, comprising a rotary block of oblong shape axially disposed in the conical cinder chamber of the gas producer, a peripheral helical rib on said rotary block, a shaft integral with said block and downwardly projecting from said conical cindcr chamber, means for rotating said shaft, :1 fixed member of spiral shape around a portion of said central rotary block, vertically disposed ribs on said spiral member, an upwardly directed cinder evacuating duct underneath said block, and means provided on said block for stirring the combustion layer.
2. Device for disintegrating the slags and cinders and for continuously breaking and loosening the caking and slagging combustion layer in automatically working gas producers, comprising a rotary block of oblong shape axially disposed in the conical cinder chamber of the gas producer, a peripheral helical rib on said rotary block, a shaft integral with said block and downwardly projecting from said conical cinder chamber, means for rotating said shaft, a fixed member of spiral shape around a portion of said central rotary block, vertically disposed ribs on said spiral member, an upwardly directed cinder evacuating duct underneath said block, a stirring arm secured on top of said rotary block and rotating within the water seal of the producer, an upwardly curved extension integral with said stirring arm and projecting in the burning fuel layer for breaking same.
3. The combination with a gas producer including a water seal, of a grinding roller having its axis vertically disposed and journaled in bearings beneath the water, a removable semi-circular grinding plate, the radial center of said semi-circular plate being eccentrically disposed with relation to the roller axis, whereby the roller may engage the interior surface of the plate at one point, and means for rotating the roller. 4. The combination with a gas producer, of a grinding mill including a rotatable roller whose axis is vertically disposed, a.- removable semi-circular co-acting grinding plate, the interior surface of which is provided with vertical ribs, slotted bolts which pass through openings in the semi-circular plate and through corresponding openings in the wall of the gas producer, and cotter pins which are seated in the slots of the bolts. p
