Application filed February 16, 1915. Serial No. aeee.
To aZZ whom/2'1 may concern:
Be it known that l, Fonnron J. OROUTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful linot which the following is a specification.
The present invention has for its object the provision of a pipe hanger extremely simple in construction, and one which can be quickly secured to a suitable support without the use of nails or the like.
. right angles to the loop portion Another important object of the invention resides in the provision. of a device of this character constructed from a single length of material, capable of adjustment to accommodate difierent size pipes. I
In the drawing forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and in which Figure l is a,perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is an elevation. Fig. 3 is a similar view or the device in adjusted position. Fig. l is an enlarged detail sectional view of one of the limbs of the device,
The device forming the subject matter of my invention is constructed from a single length of material, preferably fiat resilient metal. The metal is bent to provide an intermediate loop portion 5 for the reception of the pipe 6, the terminals of the loop at their point ofjuncture with the leg extensions 7 being twisted as at 8, whereby the legs 7 are disposed in spaced parallel and at 5. Eachof the legs 7 at spaced superimposed points are cut to provide V-shaped prongs 9 projecting rearwardly therefrom and at right angles thereto. 7 The prongs are adapted to be driven into a suitable support 10, and to effectively retain the same therein under the weight of the pipe, each of said prongs are stamped to provide a centrally disposed V- shaped lug 11 which embeds itself in the support when the prongs are driven therein.
The leg extensions 7 are disposed approxi mately in contacting engagement in normal position, but by reason of the resiliency of the device, the legs can be spread with a view of enlarging the loop 5 to accommodate pipes of varying diameter as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
It is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be thoroughly understood without requiring a more extended explanationan'd therefore the same has been omitted. However I do not limit myself to the precise construction illustrated, as various changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is As a new article of manufacture, a pipe hanger constructed from a fiat single length of material, including a pair of relatively movable limbs and an intermediate loop connecting said limbs and disposed at a right angle thereto, a longitudinal series of attaching supports stamped from each of said limbs and projecting in a common direction from one face thereof, and a substantially \I-shaped lug depending centrally from each prong for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I aftix my: signature in presence of two witnesses.
