This invention:v relates to improvementsin fan attachments forrocking chairs and its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive mechanism whlch can readily be attached to a rocking chair and automatically operated by the motion ofthe chair when .the same is in use.

The reference numeral 1 designates the chair to one rocker of which a standard 2' is secured that is formed with an elongated slot '3 and the upper end of which terminates in a head 4 in which a curved slot 5' is formed. A set screw. 6 extends through the slotted portion 3 of' the standard 2 and serves as a guide for said standard, said screw being carried by'a bracket 7 carried by thechair. To this standard 2 adjacent the head 4 an arm 8 is bolted as at 9 and .said arm is provided with a pin 10 that rides in the slotted portion 5 of the head 4;

nections of that rod to pull downwardupon the pin 24 thus causing thepawl 27 to rotate the gear wheel 20 and shaft 21 and gear 20 in mesh with cog wheel 19will rotate shaft '18 and gear wheel 17 which'throug'h its connection with cog wheel 16 will romotion. The upward: movement of the [rocker will reverse this movement andthe spring 23 will raise the pawl out of engagement with the wheel '20 and move it back i into position forthe next downward movement ofsaid rocker.

In a fan attachment for a rocking chair, a housing open at one end, movable supporting means for said housing carried by said chair, a shafted fancarried by said housing, gearing carried by said housing and operatively associated With said fan, a lever loose upon one of the shafts of said gearing, means carried by said lever for engagecopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the ment with said gearing to impart motion to the same as said lever is moved in one direction, a lever pivoted to said housing supporting means, a rod pivoted to said lever and having a roller bearing on the floor and connection between said lever and the first named lever whereby movement is imparted to the latter member through movement of the chair.
