To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. WALSH, a

-' citizen of the United States, residing at tion. Fig. 2, is a horizontal section of the Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Label-Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the lettersof reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.

My invention relates to label cases, more particularly to such cases suitable for druggists, and the object thereof is to provide a case composed of sections which may be secured together as may be desired, and which is adaptedto contain packages of-labels in ribbon form on spools, or in separate form in packages.

The features of my invention are herein-' after explained and pointed out andare illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

In these drawings A, A, (see Figs. 2 and indicate duplicate sections, preferably formed of sheet-metal, bent so as to form three sides a, a and o of a caseor receptacle; the front edge of the sheet-metal forming the side a being bent at right angles to form a dividing stile a between the sections A and A, and the edge a thereof is turned backward from said stile a parallelwith'theside afiof-the case. and both snugly against the front face of the stile a On the inner surfaces of the sides a and a of the case sections, I place supporting rackets a and upon these brackets I place drawers J J J J J J, said drawers being interchangeable as regards their location in the cases A and A. The drawers J, are adapted to contain label ribbons on spools, and the drawers J, are adapted to contain separate labels in packages.

In Figs. 2, 9 and 10, I illustrate the spoollabel form of drawers. In Fig. 2, the spool is mounted upon a spindle-pin y, and a pressure-plate j, placed thereon which extends into the corners of the drawer J, so that it cannot turn on the pivot-pin j, a concave spring strip y' is then placed on the pin 7', and lastly a nut j is put on the pin j, and screwed down until a sufiicient amount of tension is obtained upon the spool of labels. The end of the paper ribbon j, is then brought through an opening j, in the front of the drawer, and slipped transversely between the bar-plate h, and the cutter-bar it on the stile a as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

The labels in general use by druggists, are gummed labels. N w, when a label is wanted, a finger may be inserted into the notches HH, behind the end of the label inserted between the bar-plate h, and cutter-plate it, and as much of the label-strip j can be drawn out and cut off against the cutter plate it, as may be desired; the springs h, maintaining sufficient pressure on the labelstrip 7' to retain it therebetween, while per mitting it to slide freely.

In Figs. 9 and 10, the construction and operation of the mechanism is similar to that above described, except that the labelribbon j*, is brought out of an opening j, and passes across the front of the drawer J, before it passes under the cutter-bar 72,, thereby serving as a label to indicate the contents of the drawer J, from which it emerges.

In Figs. 6, 7 and 8, I illustrate the construction of the drawers J J J adapted to contain packages of separate labels. These drawers are provided with portion K, of the front wall, inclined with relation to the bottom thereof as shown in Fig. 7, and at the lower edge of said inclined portion there is a slot (See Figs. 1 and 6). I also provide on the inclined portion K, a small curved lip which projects downward to a point flush with the bottom of the drawer. In the bottom of the drawer, immediately behind the lip 76, there is an opening 76 (see Fig. 8) into which a finger may be inserted for the purpose hereinafter described. I place in the drawer J a stack 70, of separate labels, with the gummed side down, so that fiopi spf. this pat nt may e btained 2 v cents ach, by d re singhe flqmmissi ner f Ba ns the front ends thereof extend forward underneath the inclined portion K, of the front wall thereof, and I place behind said labels a block J having an inclined side to contact with the rear ends of the labels; new to withdraw a label, a finger is inserted under the drawer J, and into the opening 70 in the bottom thereof where it will contact with the gummed surface of the label on the under side of the stack, andby drawing forward thereon said label will come out through the slot 70 the lip is, engaging the next label and preventing more than the lowest one from coming through the slot.

From the foregoing it will be obvious that any number of these duplicate sections A and A, canbe placed together as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or that the section A, can be placed on top of the section A, in which case the ears a and 6 (see Figs. 4: and 5) on the section A, would engage the lower end of the section A. However, I prefer to construct the sections of desired vertical capacity and add sections onto the sides as in Fig. 1.

Having thus fully illustrated and de scribed my invention so as to enable others to construct and use the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is 1. In a label case, duplicate sections, the body of each being formed from a single sheet of metal with a vertical dividing stilestrip at one side thereof and the terminal edge of said sheet of metal being bent backward parallel with the side ofsaid section, a channel strip of sheet-metal secured on the rear portion of the section behind said stile-strip, and means on the opposite side of each section adapted to interlock with the edge of said stile-strip and said channelstrip, substantially as set forth.

2. In a label cabinet, a sectional case having three sides formed f om a single piece of sheet-metal, with one edge bent parallel with the front of the case to form a vertical stile, and then turned backward at right angles thereto, a strip of sheet-metal secured on the outer wall of said case at the rear portion thereof, having an edge turned forward parallel with the side of said case, and means on the opposite side of said case to engage a rearwardly turned edge of a vertical stile and the forwardly turned edge of a strip of sheet-metal on the outer wall of a duplicate section, substantially as set forth.
