This invention relates to a liue scraper or cleaner for removing the soot, dirtl or incrustations from the inner `sides of boiler tubes or flues and has the object to produce a strong and durable device of this character which is effective inl operation, convenient of manipulation and capable of being produced at comparativelylow cost.

In its general construction this "iuef scraper comprises a head which is made up of the means whereby the fiues are engaged for removing the soot or incrustations therefrom and the guiding devices whereby the entrance of the head into the Hues is facilitated, and the means whereby this head is supported and operated.

In its preferred form the head of the fiue scraper is made from a single sheet of spring steel or other suitable metal which is stamped out and bent to form a transverse hub 1 having a central opening 2, a plurality of scraping blades 0r cutters 3, preferably four in number, which proiect forwardly from the outer-edge of the hub and a plurality of guide flanges 4 two of which are preferably arranged lengthwise at opposite longitudinal edges of each scraper bladeand pro Iiect inwardly therefrom. Each of the scraper blades is inclined so that the several blades together form a forwardly enlarging cone and each of the scraper blades is provided with a transverse cutting edge at its front end and each blade narrows from its front end towardV its rear end. Each of the longitudinal guide flanges is provided at its front end with an inclined speciaeation of Letters Patent.

may be employed for supporting this scraper f head while in use those shown in the drawings are suitable and comprise a coupling bolt yhaving Aitsfshank `arranged in the opening of the hub l while its headS bears against the front side of the hub, a retaining cap having -afperforated bottom 9 which receives the shank of the coupling bolt and bears against the rear side of the hub and an annular forwardly projecting flange 1.0 ywhich engages with the'outer sides of the scraper bladesiat the rear ends thereof, and v a clamping sleeve llbearing at'its front end against the rear `end yof the'cap and having an internal screw thread which engages vwith the externally threaded rear end of the coupling bolt. This clamping sleeve also serves as a means for `coupling the scraper with arod or tube 12 of any desiredlengtli whereby the scraper` is moved back and forth in the tube or flue of the boiler whichis to e be cleaned.

When inserting the scraper into a boiler tube or flue the inclined guide faces of its guideflanges engage with the front end of the tube and serve to guide the scraper into the tube, thereby facilitating this operation. If the tube to be cleaned is smaller than the normal diameter of the front ends of the scraper blades the latter upon being pushed into the flue 'or tube are'contracted the required extent for this purpose which is permitted b v reason of the flexible connection between the front ends of the several scraper blades and the hub of the scraper head.

By reason of the guide ianees being arranged lengthwise at the longitudinal edges of the scraper blades the latter are materially strengthened or stifliened so that the same are very strong and durable and not liable to be bent out of .shape by hard usage. Bv engaging the retaining cap with the outer sides of the scraper blades in front of the rear ends thereof outward deflection of the scraper blades is prevented and the several blades are alwavs held in their normal operative position. Bv making the several blades and guide flanges and the hubrof the scraper head all in one piece from a single sheet of metal the construe tion of the scraper is materially simplified, there is little liability of any parts getting out of order and it also permits of producing the scraper at very low cost.V

I claim as my invention:

l. A flue scraper comprising a head con-' structed of a single sheet of metal having a central hub, a plurality of scraper blades projecting at an angle from the outer edge of the hub and forming together a cone whichoenlargesforwardly and each blade havinga transverse cutting edge at its outer end, `and a plurality of longitudinal guide flanges projecting inwardly from opposite.

A flue scraper comprising a head constructed of a single sheet of metal having a central hub,` a plurality of scraper blades Qro'ectino atan angle from the outer edOfe of the hub and forming together a cone which enlarges forwardly and each blade yhaving atransverse cutting edge at its outer end, and a plurality of longitudinal guide flanges projecting inwardly from opposite longitudinal edges of each cutter blade and each guide flange having an inclined guide face at its outer edge, the guide faces of the several flanges together forming a cone vwhich reduces forwardly and supporting means for said head comprising a coupling belt arranged with lts shank 1n an opening formed in said hub and having a head at its front end which engages with the front side of said hub7 a retaining cap having a bottom engaging with the rear side of said having an inclined guide face at its front end.

Ll. A flue scraper comprising an vintegral hub, a plurality of' scraper blades projecting` forwardly from said hub and integral therewith and each having a radial guide flange on a longitudinal edge thereof and a support on which said hub is mounted and which is provided with retaining means engaging with the outer sides of said blades at the rear ends thereof.
