To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARK Gnssorua citirzen of the United States, residing at Adamsing to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will'enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in sliding door fasteners.
One object of the invention is to provide a simple and cheap door fastener which is particularly adapted for sliding doors, and which will effectively draw the doors together and hold them in closed position.
Another object is to provide a structure of this character wherein the parts are so arranged that the strain on the pivot of the hook is at three points, whereby any tendency to the bending or breaking of the pivot is prevented.
Another object is to provide novel means for limiting the movement of the operating lever in one direction and for supporting the same in such position.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following descriptionwhen taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
Inthe drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention shown in connection with a pair of sliding doors and in operative or locked position, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device in unlocked position, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4: of Fig. 1.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 and 11 represent a pair of sliding doors, one of which is provided with a pair of vertical strips at its edge to receive the corresponding edge of the other door therebetween. Mounted on the door 10, adjacent its inner vertical edge is a bracket 13 which supports a keeper 14 in the form of an eye, as shown. Secured to the door 11 adjacent its inner vertical edge is a downwardly and rearwardly inclined plate 15, the upper end of which is offset away from the face of the door as shown at 16, and between this offset portion and the face of the door is pivotally mounted the inner end of the operating lever 17. Secured to the lever at a suitable distance away from the pivotal point thereof is an elongated plate 18 which extends to a point adjacent the pivotal point of the lever. Extending through the lever and through the end of this plate is a bolt 19, and pivotally mounted on the bolt between the lever and the plate is a hook 20,
the outer end of which is adapted to be engaged through the eye of the keeper as clearly shown in Fig. 1. It will be noted that the lower portion of the offset part of the plate 15 is disposed in a horizontal'line, soas to be engaged by the lever when it is thrown into horizontal position, to limit the downward movement thereof.
From an inspection of the drawing it will readily be seen that when the hook is engaged with the keeper, and the lever thrown down into a horizontal position, the doors will be drawn into closed position, and held firmly in such position; also, that when the lever is thrown upwardly the tension on the hook will be relieved so that the hook can be readily disengaged from the keeper when the doors are opened.
Particular attention is called to the fact that the lever and plate 18 exert a pull in one direction at two points on the bolt 19, while the hook member exerts a pull at one point between thev aforesaid points. Thus liability of the bolt being bent or broken is reduced to a minimum.
Whatis claimed is:
1. A fastener for sliding doors comprising a keeper member, a bracket mounted on the sliding door, a lever pivotally carried by the bracket, a latch member eccentrically pivoted on the lever, and a brace connected to the lever and to the pivot of the latch.
2.
