To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ORAL 0; Ln BLANO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mops and Detachable Brushes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is an improved mop and detachable brush therefor the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character in which a brush is employed which is detachably connected to the mop head so that the mop and brush can be used simultaneously as when scrubbing the floor and so that either the mop or brush may be used, when desired, independently of the other.

The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan of a mop and detachable brush constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line a-a of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the plane indicated by the line 6-?) of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the brush.

In accordance with my invention I provide a mop head which is here shown as an oblong rectangular frame 1 formed from a single piece of metal .and provided at its rear side with upwardly extending spaced arms 2 between which the front end of the mop handle 3 of any suitable material is secured by means of bolts 4:. A pair of bars 5 are arranged in opposite ends of the frame and spaced from the ends 6 thereof, the said bars being provided with outturned end portions 7 which bear against the ends 6. The said ends 6 and bars 5 are provided with openings 8 for the extended ends of the axle shaft 9 of a roller 10 and are also provided with slots 11 in which the extended ends of the shaft 12 of the roller 13 have their bearings. Hence the roller 13 while mounted for revoluble movement is also mounted for movement toward and from the roller 10.

A crank handle 14 is attached to one end of the axle shaft of the roller 13 and enables the latter to be revolved at will. Said Specification of Letters Patent.

roller 13 has a roughened peripheral surface which may be produced in any suitable manner. Preferably the rollers 10 and 13 are made of wood but they may be made of any suitable material.

An endless mop cloth 15 has one lead passed between the rollers 10 and 13 so that said mop cloth passes over the roller 13 and under the roller 10. The springs 16 are attached to the axle shafts of the rollers and serve to draw the roller 13 toward the roller 10 to compress the mop cloth between them. Hence the said rollers in addition to holdmg and permitting the adjustment of the mop cloth also enable the mop cloth to be wrung when desired, this being accompllshed by merely turning the roller 13 by means of its crank handle and rendering it unnecessary for the user of the mop to wet his hands when wringing the mop cloth. By slightly turning the roller 13 the mop cloth may be adjusted when desired.

I also in connection with the mop provide a brush 18 which comprises an oblong rectangular head 19 and the usual bristles 20. The brush head is provided near its ends with angle irons 21 which extend upwardly therefrom .and each of which is pro vided in its vertical arm with a slot 22 which is opened at its upper end. These slots serve to receive the front side of the frame or mop head and permit the brush to be readily associated with the mop head in operative relation to the mop cloth. is also provided with a spring hook 23 which is pivotally connected thereto as at 24: and which is adapted to be engaged over the upper edge of the front side of the frame to detachably secure the brush to the frame. To remove the brush it is only necessary to disengage the hook, as will be understood. The brush may be used in connection with the mop as in scrubbing a floor or may be detached from the mop to permit the independent use of either the mop or the brush as may be desired.
