IMPROVEMENT IN CARROUSELS.

Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,336, dated July 25, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLHELM SCHNEIDER, of Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Carrousel; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication, in which Figure l represents a vertical central section of my improved carrousel, the line a b, Fig. 2, in dicating the plane of section. Fig. 2 is a portion of an inverted plan view of the same.

This invention relates to a new arrangement of carrousel or rotary pavilion used in public parks and other places of amusement, and has for its object to provide ample accommodation for occupants, a substantial mode of construction, and a convenient method of guiding it during motion. The invention consists in making the carrousel in two stories, and in providing a staircase within the central supporting-frame to enable persons to reach the second story.

A in the drawing represents the stationary supporting-post of my improved carrousel. It projects from a suitable cross-shaped or other base, B, which sustains it in the upright position.

Y Braces C C extend from the base B to the upper part of the post, and steady it. They also serve to hold a disk or circular platform, c, which embraces the post, as shown,'and another 'upper platform d. D is the rotary frame of the carrousel. It is constructed of a series of upright posts, e f, horizontal beams g h i, inclined braces jj, and roof-timbers 7c, all disposed substantially as indicated in Fig. l, to constitute two stories, E and F, or annular chambers. The lower larger story or chamber E extends to the height ofthe platform c. Its inner diameter is equal to the outer diameter of the upper chamber or story F, whose floor is in line with c and its ceiling in line with the platform d. The center of the roof constitutes an inverted .,socket, l, which the small upper end of the post enters, as shown. G G are friction-rollers, applied to the iioor of the chamber F, and working' against the edge ofthe platform c, to steady the carrousel in its rotation. The person or app ara-tus for turning the carrousel is placed upon the platform l and rotates the outer case D. yRadial partitions may be arranged within the annular chambers to divide the same into series of small apartments. Within each compartment may be placed a sofa, imita-tion horse, or other suitable seat.
