APPLICATION FlLED APR.26, 1915.

awuautoz 5 fil'ch rfoiz UMTED snares PATENT OFFER SPENCER BICKERTON, OF HONOLULU, TERRITORY OF HAWAII.
STAMP-RECEPTACLE.
Application filed April 26,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SPENCER BICKERTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Honolulu, in the county of Honolulu and Territory of Hawaii, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stamp-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in receptacles for stamps as well as the moisteners for the said stamps, and the object of the invention is to simplify and improve the existing art by providing a device of this character which shall be simple, cheap and thoroughly effective in operation. With the above and other objects in view, the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claims. In the drawing: Figure l is a perspective view of a receptacle constructed in accordance with the present invention, the lid or closure being in its open position, Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal sectional view through the same, the lid being closed, Fig. 3 is a similar sectional view but taken through one of the side compartments for the stamps, and Fig. 4 is a similar sectional view illustrating a slightly modified form. Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates a substantially rectangular box, the same being provided with a hinged closure 2, and the said closure preferably is provided with side and end flanges. The box 1 is formed with a plurality of stamp compartments, three being illustrated in the drawing, and the central compartment being indicated by the numeral 3, while the end compartments are indicated by the numerals 4. The compartments are preferably formed with a curved base or bottom 5 which terminates a suitable distance from the outer longitudinal edge of the box or compartment 1, the so called outer edge being disposed opposite the longitudinal edge to which the closure 2 is hinged, so that a space between the said edge and, the stamp compartments is provided. Ar-fc-Z ranged within the space is a pair of substantially rectangular absorbent elements 66, i

box 1 below the curved floor 5, the said portion providing a water compartment which is indicated by the numeral 9. The absorbent elements 66 project a suitable distance above the top of the box, and water is admitted to the compartment 9 through the spring pressed door 7, and the flanged closure 2 is provided with a transverse partition 9 which forms a compartment 10 that receives the projecting ends of the absorbent elements 66 when the closure is fitted over the box and locked thereto. This is a very desirable feature of the construction inasmuch as moisture from the absorbent elements is prevented from entering the stamp compartments and affecting the adhesive substance upon the stamps.
In Fig. 4 the device is substantially similar except that only one compartment 10' is provided with the stamps, while a valved opening 11 is arranged upon one side of the absorbent element 12, the said openings communicating with a water compartment of the device. This structure is comparatively small, the same being preferably constructed to be carried in the pocket of the user.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the simplicity of the device, as well as the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such invention appertains without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In a device for the purpose set forth, a box like structure including a hinged closure, said box having a curved partition dividing the same into a stamp compartment and a water receptacle, the water receptacle having a closed top, an absorbent member projecting through the top and entering the water receptacle, and a valve inlet for the said water receptacle.
2. In a device for the purpose set forth a flanged member having an open top, a .curved partition in the member dividing the .same into a stamp compartment and into a .water receptacle arranged forward of the stamp compartment, said water receptacle having a closed top arranged in a line with ment projecting above the top and passing through an opening in the said top of the In testimony whereof I affix my signature water receptacle, a valve inlet for the top, a in presence of two Witnesses.
flanged closure for the member, and. said SPENCER BICKERTON closure comprising two compartments, one
of which overlying the stamp compartment Witnesses: and the other lncloslng the projected end of DAVID DOUGLAS, the absorbent element and the valveclosure. G. D. MAI-IONE.
