Be it known that I, MAX KRAvITz, a sub ject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Multicolor- Printing Presses, of which the following is a specification.
l This invention relates to improvements in multicolor printing presses designed particularly for printing two or more `colors in a single operation, the primary object of the invention being to provide a simple, eili cient and comparatively inexpensive construction of press of this character which shall be reliable in action, and adapted to effect the inking of the form matter and -the timed operation of the elements in proper accord to impression.4 ,y
A further object of the invention is 'to provide a.construction wherein the subject matterfto be printed is arranged in a plurality of type forms, disposed one in rear of the other, and which are, simultaneously print an absolutely clear 'inked-by. sets of inking devices, and in which the action of the press is' such that.

Re erring 'to vthe drawings, 1 designates the frame of the press on which is'journaled part of the la horizontal transverse drive shaft 2 which may be operated by any suitable power, a foot power mechanism being shown in the present instance consisting of a treadle lever 3 and a connecting rod 4: coupling the same to a crank onthe shaft. The shaft 2 car-' ries at one-end a fly wheel 6 and at its oppo site end a gear pinion .7 which latter meshesy with a gearS on one end of a horizontal transverse countershaft 9, which is provided at its opposite end with a crank disk 10.

As stated, the rocker .arms 29 swing loosely upon. the shaft 30, and for the purpose o communicating roc ing motion thereto 'inV the back and for h motions of the ,carriers connecting rods'60 rear ends with crank arms 62 secured to flugs 63 projecting from the rocker arms, so that in the rearward movement of. the carriers an upward pull will be exerted on the rocker arms to swing them upwardly and rearwardly, and thereby cause the rollers to move over the printing plates to take up a supply of ink, while on the forward movement of the form carriers the inking rollers will move forwardly and downwardly 'and ink the forms prior to the time they come into printing position.- Gripping ingers are provided toA clamp the sheet against the platen and withdraw the printed sheet from contact with the forms. These fingers are operatively connected with the platen 4and frame in any suitable manner.
In thepractical carrying of my invention into eli'ect, part of the matter to be printed in one color is disposed upon the form 25 while the remainder of the matter to be` printed in -a'diderent color is disposed upon the form 27', and the construction of the type employed is such as to permit the type matter composing the :rear form to moveA through the front form. to bring the sets of type matter upon the dierent forms into alinement for the printing action in which both Colors are printed simultaneously. which are preferably threesided, so that in the setting up the type composing the matter to be printed by the front form the spacers may have their two parallel sides fitted into ooves 67 of adjacent type 66 so as to provide spacesor openings 69 for the passageand reception of the type 65 u'pon the reanorm. Thus it will' be understood that the type composingthe matter upon the rear form which is to be printed in 'any certain color will be inked byone set of inlring rollers with ink of that color, while the type composing the matter-upon the fr t form which is'to be printed in another collir will be vinked by a separate set of inking rollers with `inl; of thedifferent color, and when the type forms 'are brought together or closed from the space or open position' the twqforms will exactly the subjectmatter thereof in the di'erent vcolqrsupon the sheet resting on the platen.
