HORSE-COLLAR.
a iicationrniealma 6,19152. seriaisnopaes'ia- To all whom it may concemr Be it known that I, LEWIS WV. STROBER, citizen of the United States, residing at \Vaukee, in the countyof Dallas andl'Stateof Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse- Collars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to horse collars and particularly to collars which are adjustable to fit horses of different size; and it consists in certain peculiarities in construction and combination of parts to be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim. r
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of a horse collar constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of that portion of the collar utilized to connect duplicate collar sections; and Fig. 3 is a similar view, the means utilized to join the collar sections at the base being shown.
Like numerals of reference designate like or corresponding parts throughout the'several views.
Referring now to the drawings, 11 designates duplicate sections, each of a size and shape suitable for use. The sections 1 taper at each end, that connection provided at the base of the collar and designated as an entirety by the numeral 2 consisting of a metal sleeve like structure 3 affixed to the collar section and flattened as indicated at 41-, the flattened portion being provided with a plurality of uniformly spaced aperaures 5,
any one of which is adapted to receivean outturned lip or right angled extension 6 formed integrallywith'the flattened portion 7 of the sleeve like metal fastening portion 8 constituting the attaching means whereby the last mentioned part is aflixed to the other or opposite collar section 1. By passing the lip or extension 6 through one of the the lip or extension 6. A staple 12 is se-- cured or made integral with the flattened portion 7 of the metal fastening device 8to receive the yoke strap of the harness.
Through the agency of the means just men tioned, the collar sections 1 are joined (adj ustably); at the base: 014 enlarged portion of the collar. i
At" the top}- of the collar connecting por- Specification of Iimtterslatent, pat t iF 22 191a tion designated as an entirety by the numeral 13. is provided, the said connecting portion consisting of a pliable padded strip 14 bifurcated at each end-to provide straps designated respectively 15 and 16, the former, the strap 15, being adapted for buckling engagement as indicated at 17 with the padded portion of the collar 1 at each side thereof. I Strap 16 is adapted for buckling engagement as indicated at 18 with the inner or'rigidportion of the collar'at each side thereof, the manner in which the connecting element 14 is affixed at its opposite end being a duplicate at each side of the collar. Anoinner padded pliablestrip 19 is affixed as at 20 to the strip 14 equi-distant from its ends, the inner strip being directly engageable with the" neck of the animal to create a. soft means of support. The inner strip is held in place by means of straps 21 affixed to the outer face of the mentioned and effectually hold the sections 1 against :7
relative lateral movement;
In reduction to practice, "I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in' the above description, as the preferredem-bodi ment, is the most eflicient and practical;
yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire toremphasize thefact that various minor changes in details of.
construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required,
without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention, as defined in the appended claim. I V 1 'Having thus fully described my invention, what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a horse collar, having duplicate separable side sections, a detachable neck shield for connectingtthe side sections, the said shield comprising a pair of soft flexible strips fastened together at a pointequidistant from their ends, the upper strip .be
ing; bifurcated at each end to provide a plurality of fastening straps, two buckles.
on each side section to engage with the straps thus formed to fasten said side sec-4 tions between said strips, and a strap secured to the innermost strip adjacent each Copies of this patentmay be obtained for LEWIS W. STROBERJ Witnesses JOHN l/V. PEARSON, JOHN C. Knnnm;
