Description
UNrrnn STATES PATE WILLIAM N. BENNETT, OF ILLYRIA, IOWA.
IMPRLOVEMENT IN GUN-LOCKS.
To all whom 'it mag/.cancelen Be it known that I, WILLIAM N. BENNETT, of Illyria, in the county of Fayette and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Trigger Jfor Fire-Arms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereot, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication.
Fi gnre l represents a sectional side view of my improved trigger and connections. Fig. 2 is a detail side view ofthe main trigger. Fig. 3 is a top view, partly in section, of the apparatus.
Similar letters of reference in dicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new trigger mechanism which can be used like a plain trigger, or set to constitute a hair-trigger, as. may be desired. The invention consists in connecting the main trigger by a slotted arm and pin with the discharge-lever so that it will swing said lever plainly for an ordinary discharge, or rst lock and then suddenly release it for more accurate tiring.
A in the drawing represents the main trigger of the arm pivoted at a to the lower plate B of the frame. C is a projecting arm ofthe main trigger. It is provided with an inclined slot, b, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2. D is the lever for disengaging the hammer. It is, at o, pivoted to the plate B, and has a projectingpin, d, entering the slot b of G. E is a spring for holding the lever D elevated 5 F, another spring, for throwing the trigger forward. l
By pulling `the trigger the lever D will be oscillated so as to operate the hammer, such oscillation being erl'ected by the slot and pin-connection b d. Vhen it is desired to use the apparatus as a hair-trigger, the main triggerA is pulled forward so as thereby to swing the lever D down and lockv its end under a hook, e, at the upper end of the trigger. The lever D is then set in the position shown in Fig. l. A slight touch of the trigger will release and throw it (the lever D) violentlyT up for moving the hammer with equal precision. i
The trigger can thus he used for setting, which makes the operation of the hair attachment simple and easy to be controlled.
j' is a set-screw put into the trigger for regulating the depth to which the lever D is set.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the slotted arm C and lever D with the trigger A, substantially as shown and described.
VILLIAM N. BENNETT.
