Be it known that I, VAN TAYLOR Dnavnn,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Haywood and State of North Carolina, have invented anew and useful Chair-Seat, of which thefollowing is a specification.

.The present invention appertains to chair seats. 1 i V The present invention contemplates the provision of a. chair seat of unique construction, whereby it may begreadily applied to various chair frames, the device being adjustable for this purpose, and being comparatively simple and inexpensive in construction,as well as convenient, practical, serviceable and efficient in its use. 7 c

As a. most specific object, the present invention aims to provide a flexible or fabric apron adapted to be passed overthe side members of the seat portion of 'a chair frame, and including novel means for connecting the ends of the apron or strip to hold the same taut.

With the foregoing and other-"ob ects 1n V16\V\Vi110l1 Wlll appear as thedesc'ription proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the :letails of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a bottom view of the chair seat as applied, a portion being broken away. Fig. 2 is a front view of the device as ap plied, the chair frame being shown in section and largely broken away.

In carrying out the present invention, there is provided an apron 1 of suitable textile or flexible material, and of suitable width and length to be applicable to various chair frames, the'apron 1 being adapted to be dis: posed over the side members 2 of the seat portion of the chair frame, whereby the ends of the apronwill lie below the intermediate seat portion thereof 'Transversely elongated buckles 3 are engaged to the end portionsof the apron 1 so as'to lie below the intermediate or seat portion thereof, and each buckle embodies a proximately spiral or involute curve from transversely elongated frame'or loop ,4 having an intermediate bar 5 connecting its ends and disposed between and parallel with the side bars thereof. Elongated tongues 6 have sleeve portions loosely embracing the median bars 5, and hav their free edges serrated to engage theapron 1. As seen in Fig. 2, the,

end portions of the apron 1 pass over the side bars of the frames a and under the in termediate bars 5, whereby the tongues 6 will engage the material, as illustrated "in Fig to hold thebuckles against movement toward each other, and to enable the buckles to be adjusted when the tongues t") are loosened and the apron 1 slacked.

As a means for coupling or connecting thejend portions of the apron together,

having its arms provided with offsetv portions 10, has terminal eyes 11 loosely em bracing the intermediate or yoke'portion of the member 7 adjacent the armsxthereof, A third iJ-shaped member 12 is provided with terminal eyes 13 loosely embracing the offset portions 10 of the member 9, where- The members 7, 9 and 12 are disposed in 'termediate the edges of the apron 1, and

the ends of the corresponding buckle, and

project toward the other buckle. V lhe member 9 1s narrower than the member 7, and

the member 12 is still narrower than the member 9, so that it maybe said that the series of U-shaped members decrease width beginning with the member 7.

A .U-shaped member 1&- is provided with bar of that buckle frame a remote from the members 7, 9"and 12 and a curved latch loop 16 has the terminal books 17 provided with eyes or loops '18 loosely embracing theintermediate portion'of the member 1%. Ihe curved loop 16 is eccentric relativeto the pivot eyes 18,'so as to extend alonganap terminal eyes 15 embracing the inner side the hooks 17. Thepa- rts 7, 9, 12, 14 and 16 are preferably bent from suitable wire or rods, and the loop 16 and its hooks 17 form a latchv which is engageable with the members 7 9 and 12, to couple the buckles together and to thereby connect the end por tions of the apron to hold the apron taut when it is applied to various chair frames. Thus, when the apron is applied. to a chair frame over and around the side members 2, as above intimated, the loop 16 may be swung into engagement with the member 7, 9 or 12, whereby the loop 16 in being swung to the position illustrated in Fig. 2, will cause the hooks 17 to engage the corresponding member 7, 9 or 12, to hold the apron taut. It will be noted that the loop 16 being curved as indicated, will have a cam action to draw the ends of the apron toward one another, as the loop 16 is swung to locking position as illustrated'in Fig. 2. The hooks l7 engaging the member 7 9 or 12, will hold the buckles 3 in coupled condition to hold the seat structure firm. The

The apron 1 may be provided along its front and rear edges with fringes indicated at 100, the fringes 100: for the most part being omitted in the drawings in order that more important parts of the device may'not be obscured thereby.

Having thus described the invention, what of one buckle, a latch'embodying a curved loop having terminal hooks pivotally connected to the intermediate portion of said U shaped member, and a series of U-shaped members one of which 1S relatively wide and 1 has its ends pivotally embracing. a portion of the other buckle, the other members of said series havingtheir ends pivotally embracing the companion members, and: the.

members of said series decreasing in width beginning with the said relatively wide member, the latch belng engageable WltlL the intermediate portions of the members of said series.
