LUNGH-WBABPEE.
Specification of Letters Iatent.
Application filed April 9, 1915. Serial No. 20,266.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLEMENT J. GERHARD- STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lunch-Wrappers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lunch wrappers, and it has for its object to produce a simple, neat and sanitary lunch wrapper, whereby the use of ordinary wrapping paper and be dispensed with.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple, durable and sanitary wrapper which may be readily adjusted to lunch packages With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood,-the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view showing the outside of the improved wrapper. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the in- Fig. 3 is a plan view showing a package partly enfolded within the improved wrapper. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the package complete. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the empty wrapper folded;
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by. like characters of reference.
The body of the improved wrapper is composed'of a sheet 15 of thin leather, textile fabric or other suitable material which, however, should possess the qualities of tensile strength and durability. The sheet is cut approximately to the shape of a fourpointed star having oppositely disposed flaps 16, 16 and intermediate oppositely disposed flaps 17 18, thelatter being terminally of a width exceeding any of the remaining flaps. Tongues 25 which are rounded outwardly, as'shown, are formed in the angles or bundles of different sizes.
impervious lining between the several sheet 15 is provided with a hem 19, and within that portion of the hem which extends around the relatively wide flap 18 is inserted a portion, of the edge of a sheetv20 of thin rubber cloth, oil cloth, oil silk or other impervious material. The body portion of the sheet 20 is positioned between the flaps .16, 16 and 17, and said body portion may be secured upon the sheet 15 by a row of stitching 21.
The opposed flaps 16, 16 and 17, 18-are provided with interengaging friction fastening members 22, 23. The flap one of the flaps 16 are each provided with a plurality of members 22 ,arranged in spaced relation for coiiperation with the Patented Feb. 15, 112316..
18 and i members 23 attached to the opposed flaps.
top of the bundle and the inwardly, as best seen in Fig. 3, thus serving to protect the corners of the package. The bundle will thus be confined within the impervious sheet 20 and secured by connecting the friction or snap fastening members 22, 23 applied to the flaps 18, 17 with each other. The flaps 16, 16 are now successively folded on the flaps 18 and 17 and connected together by means of the snap fastening members. It will thus be seen that lunch packages of various sizes may be securely folded in the wrapper and carried in a con venient manner without danger of leakage. The wrapper, when empty, may be folded in extremely small compass, so as to be conveniently carried. It is evident that the sheet enables the wrapper to be kept in a neat, clean and sanitary condition.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A lunch wrapper comprising a sheet of flexible material provided at the sides and ends thereof with oppositely extending flaps,-one 'of said flaps being of a width exceeding that of the remaining flaps, a hem surrounding the edge of the sheet, and
an impervious lining sheet having a. portion thereof inserted in the hem portion of the relatively Wide flap. 0
2. A lunch Wrapper comprising a sheet of flexible material provided at the sides and ends thereof with oppositely extending flaps, one of said flaps being of a Width exceeding that of the remaining flaps, tongues extending outwardly in the angles between the flaps, a hem surrounding the edge of the sheet, and an impervious lining sheet having a portion thereof inserted in the hem portion of the relatively Wide flap.
3. A lunch Wrapper comprising a sheet of flexible material provided at the sides In testimony whereof I ailix my signature 25 in presence of two'witnesses.
